What sport?

For promotional reasons, today's Toronto Argonauts home game was actually played at Huskies Stadium at St. Mary's University in Halifax. The field had markings in white suitable for both CFL and Canadian university football play, and in yellow for soccer.

But it had a fourth set of markings in orange, and those are what I'm curious about.

One set of 6 lines ran across the field, about a foot from each 5-yard line and exactly along each 24-yard and 44-yard line, thus marking sections 56, 60, 66, 60, and 56 feet long. The other 4 lines ran lengthwise on the field, ending at the lines near the 5-yard lines. Since there is no yard scale in that direction I had to estimate the positions, but I made them to be 5 and 17 yards from each sideline, thus marking sections about 15, 35, 95, 35, and 15 feet wide. The lines along the 24-yard lines were solid orange; all the others were dashed lines. I saw no other orange markings, but of course it's possible that some of the soccer or football markings served an additional purpose.

The dimensions are wrong for lacrosse. You can see the field in this video and the dimensions of a lacrosse field. At the 0:15 mark, you can see the dotted line is 11 yards from the center of the field, whereas it should be 20 for lacrosse. (A lacrosse field is 110 yards long, the same as for Canadian football.) From the description (the video is unavailable in my area), they sound similar to the dimensions and markings of a Rugby football pitch, which are laid out in metres. Yes, the difference between 5 yards and 5 metres is 16 1/2 inches, 22 metres is 23.98 yards, and (50-10-22) = 18 metres = 19.62 yards. When a friend played rugby union back in the sixties and I used to watch there was the centre line, the goal line and the touchline, and that was it. This puts me in mind of the Man About the House episode of 19 September 1973 when Robin offers to substitute for a friend who can't play in a football match, and discovers as he is welcomed by his team mates and escorted onto the field that it's actually a rugby match. 2A00:23A8:0:3D01:B146:4391:37DC:D954 (talk) 13:55, 30 July 2023 (UTC)

Search for study: analysis of soccer matches using moving data

I am looking for a scientific professional study in which soccer games, especially women's and men's soccer, have been analyzed. However, this was only done using pure moving data.

I have a question about the old tv shows Xena and Hercules?

Could the 90's characters Xena and Hercules maybe been inspired by the characters He Man and She Ra and Conan the Barbarian? I know Hercules was partly inspired by the myth. Just curious if anyone here knows. 2001:569:5026:8A00:C16E:ECF9:4BBA:9E7F (talk) 21:55, 30 July 2023 (UTC)

It's not that there's a direct copying or inspiration here; rather Xena and He Man and Conan the Barbarian all come from the same literary tradition, known as "sword and sorcery". Instead of a "X and Y and Z all borrowed from this earlier story", it's more like "This genre has a series of common tropes that all of these works borrow from." --Jayron32 12:24, 31 July 2023 (UTC)

Specific to the television shows, Xena was a supporting character for a few episodes on Hercules. She was very popular, so she was given a spin-off television show. That indicates that Xena (on her own show) was inspired by Xena (the villain from the Hercules show). 97.82.165.112 (talk) 12:39, 31 July 2023 (UTC)
