Left-handed people

Are there any populated places where more than half of its inhabitants are left-handed? --40bus (talk) 18:36, 1 June 2023 (UTC)

A number of sources (see here and here for example) point out that the highest prevalence of lefthandedness is in the Netherlands, with 13,23%, followed by the U.S. and Canada, who are not far behind. That's a long way from 50%. Xuxl (talk) 20:37, 1 June 2023 (UTC)

How small can a populated place be? For a hamlet with three families living there, the chance of having a majority of left-handers, also taking into account heritability, is in the order of one in a million. If there are millions of such hamlets, there is a fair chance at least one meets the criterion. As the minimum size increases, the likelihood dwindles quickly. For a minimum of five families, it is close to zero.  --Lambiam 10:01, 2 June 2023 (UTC)

The strong skew towards right-hand preference at the population level suggests that right-hand-preference is the typical or default arrangement for humans, while left-hand preference may result from genetic, environmental or random perturbations that influence the central nervous system during early development (although alternatives to this view have been discussed).

(That article says "Glorieta Pass Battlefield is managed by Pecos National Historical Park and supported by the Glorieta Battlefield Coalition, a non-profit citizens' organization.")
