Consensus was found during a CfD to rename all categories of the form "Image-Class XXX articles" to "File-Class XXX articles". This page describes the process that will be followed to achieve this.

Process
edit- Get a bot to create all the "File-Class XXX articles" categories. The content should correspond to the "Image-Class XXX articles" category. Done
- Make a change to Template:Class mask so that the default name for this class is changed to "File". Some custom class masks may also need to be updated. Done
- Update the other banners that don't use class mask at Category:WikiProject banners.
- Update all banners using inline class masks. Done
- Delete all the unwanted categories of the form "Image-Class XXX articles". Done
