I have seen that the page of Mr. Dilip Ghosh, (a politician) belongs to West Bengal state of India, in Wikipedia showing the details that he belongs to Sadgope caste and Sadgope is a backward caste.

People belong to Sadgope caste in West Bengal don't considered as a backward caste. They do not get Other Backward Caste (OBC) certificate in West Bengal. Sadgope may be a backward caste in other states of India but it is not a backward caste in West Bengal.

Therefore, I want Wikipedia to remove " backward caste" from the page of Mr. Dilip Ghosh.

Issues

edit

I'll start here, but we may want a separate tab for to-do issues.

Issues:

  • Logo - Long-term–Create specific logo for request edits; short-term, pick something that works in the interim
 Done
  • Who can edit? Long-term–AfC worked through this issue, so we should review their process. Short-term—allow anyone (without a COI) to make the edit, and informally have experienced editors double-check reviews of newer editors
My suggestion would be anyone with an auto-confirmed account. I'll add it to the Reviewer instructions page.
AfC requires 90 days and 500 undeleted edits. I'd like at least that much (but wouldn't add the "undeleted" qualifier. I'd also add something about understanding policies, especially COI. Perhaps some others should be emphasized as well, such as WP:Weight --S Philbrick(Talk) 19:23, 25 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Go for it. My only suggestion is that if you want those restrictions technically enforced, that would require stronger consensus and additional technical support that may just slow things down. I would suggest it more as a strong recommendation. CorporateM (Talk) 19:30, 25 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Submissions At present, when an item is handled, it simply disappears from the list. I would prefer that it remain in the list, with an indication of who processed it, and what was done
  • Credit Long-term–create a barnstar for substantive contributions, something else for meaningful, but less than barnstar contributions.
  • Publicity Design a {{Wikipedia ads}}
  • Live help I'm guessing that is an artifact from - if we aren't manning it, should it go?
Not done Just tested it. It is not an artifact, but something that is up and running and easy to use. Tons of people there right now.
Wonderful. But at some time, we might need to point them to this page. --S Philbrick(Talk) 19:24, 25 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Identity This is just a page. Should it be a Wikiproject like WP:AfC and WP:CP? A Task Force, like Women's basketball? If the former, we have some hoops to jump through. If the latter, we need a sponsoring project.
I think throwing it into a WikiProject: Request Edits might be the best thing, similar to WP:AFC. We could debate endlessly on the best place to put it exactly and it would be neat to integrate it into the same queue as edit requests or AfCs to avoid creating even more queues, but putting it into its own WikiProject is something that can be done easily. CorporateM (Talk) 19:21, 25 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Getting here At some point, we need to know how to tell people how to get to this page
See Template:COI editnotice. I created this template a long time ago and I see it being used quite a bit, though there was never consensus to simply spam it onto every org page. It would be nice to get a bot to apply it to all pages that have a COI template in article-space.
Made up so they are not embarrassing, but based on real examples so they are genuine.
User:Sphilbrick I responded to some of these points in-line and made some tweaks. I've also been giving all the pages a fresh review and doing a lot of re-writing to make them shorter and more straightforward. CorporateM (Talk) 19:21, 25 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Technical help

edit

The following are things that I think would require a technical person in order to make this wizard "work"

  • A BOT-created table similar to this one that shows recently accepted and declined Request Edits and the username of the editor accepting/declining them.
I'll try reaching out to user:Hasteur who is good at this stuff.--S Philbrick(Talk) 19:29, 25 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ideally a form with a submit button for the submission pages to request a correction, contest bias material, or offer content
  • Something that takes the form-submitted content from those pages and puts them into an easily readable format on the Talk page of the article with a Request Edit template at the top.

CorporateM (Talk) 19:27, 25 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • CorporateM So that I understand Sphilbrick's request, I'm being flagged in for writing a automated process that
    • Scans all the Active edit requests to log them in for an entry time of when the request was first made
    • Then scans edit requests that were unfufilled as of the last scan to look for recent closures
    • If a edit request transitioned to fufilled enter a fufilled date so we know when it was fufilled
    • If a edit request that was recently fufilled (48~72 hrs) gets reactivated (editor disagrees with the solution), remove the fufillment date from the database record for the requiest
    • Write out a wikitable that lists all the recently fufilled edit requests, including the editor who fufilled it.
  • Is this correct? Also I want to make sure you're aware that WP:BRFA moves at sub-glacial speeds, I currently have a BRFA from January that's still waiting for approval so if you wanted to light a fire under the Bot Approvals Group membership to make sure they're doing their job, that would be wonderful. Hasteur (talk) 23:40, 25 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I need to give some thought to the specs, because to be honest, I wasn't thinking in terms of a bot. That won't happen this evening, but it will in the morning. I'll also check out the BFRA, and see if there is anything I can do.--S Philbrick(Talk) 01:22, 26 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure I can be of much help describing the technical requirements but Sphil do you think the Article Alerts at WikiProject Companies is a good example to duplicate? Just need to replace AfD/GA nominations with things like accepted/declined/partial. CorporateM (Talk) 14:46, 31 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Simplified

edit

One of the things I realized during our talks at the conference was that I was making a very complicated Wizard, when we just needed something very, very simple. I have consolidated the entire submissions wizard into a single page with three buttons using a template created by @Mattsenate. The way the template works is, the user puts in the name of the article and it goes to that page, starts a new section, and creates a template-based form for the user to fill out in an edit-window. Very very streamlined. Matt, keep helping us helpless non-technical people! ;-) 00:07, 2 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
