List of music and organization navboxes (31 December 2014)
This is a list of navboxes that may be able to be created for the organizations and musicians shown.
Template:Cite OLMS
I could use some help with a template (Template:Cite OLMS) I recently created, on two fronts: mainly, figuring out how to properly direct link the various documents relevant to the template, querying a database that normally presents an interface dependent on the browser session and interaction via javascript search pages. Secondly, presenting the citations in a useful way for both online and print.
The database is one of a department of the United States government, the US Department of Labor's Office of Labor-Management Standards. Documents are usually annually filed LM-##'s, but can also include various attachments, or reports commissioned by the DOL or OLMS. These are probably considered mainly primary sources, containing raw statistics and/or decisions concerning labor-related organizations and officers, including unions, employers, and consultancy firms.
The biggest need is help searching existing direct links to hosted documents or prodding the database for new direct links, to figure out new or improved ways of citing specific documents, and getting the template to handle these fairly esoteric needs.
I continue to try improving the template, but for what I haven't been able to figure out yet, I've created a short wishlist. Thanks, djr13 (talk) 19:07, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
Simple English Infobox Template
Is there an infobox person template for the Simple English Wikipedia? The vocabulary of the standard person infobox template is too difficult for the mandate of the Simple English Wikipedia. I recommend changing:
Occupation -> Work
Predecessor -> Person Before
Successor -> Person After
Spouse -> Husband/Wife
(While I understand the expediency of using 'spouse,' the reality is that 'husband' and 'wife' occur much more frequently on word lists for nonnative English speakers than 'spouse')
I imagine these are simple changes, but they are beyond my programming abilities. Any help appreciated, rbae500 (talk) 3, January 2015.
- Templates can only be used at the wiki where they are saved so changes would have to be made at the Simple English Wikipedia, for example simple:Template:Infobox person and others in simple:Category:People infobox templates. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:11, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
Embedded audio
Template:Audio is supposed to be used for pronunciation etc, but doesn't actually embed the audio, it only links it. Template:Listen embeds the audio but offers a real player, which is overkill for a 2 second pronunciation audio. Is there any way to either make Template:Audio embed the file or to make Template:Listen so small that it can be used inline for pronunciation? Who could make such a change? --Dnaber (talk) 21:25, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
Replicate Wikibooks' Template:HoverImage in Wikipedia
(NOTE: ORIGINALLY PROPOSED AT Village Pump (Proposals), BUT PROBABLY BETTER REQUESTED HERE.)
Wikipedia needs an easy-to-use template equivalent to the HoverImage template in Wikibooks, for relatively non-technical Wikipedia and Commons users like me:
https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Template:HoverImage
The Commons library is becoming vast and Wikipedia's use of pictures continues to increase. A picture is worth a thousand words, and a well-done hoverable picture is worth even more.
-- WikiPedant (talk) 05:57, 2 March 2015 (UTC)
- I think this requires support for the principle at Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)#Replicate Wikibooks' Template:HoverImage in Wikipedia before making a template. PrimeHunter (talk) 06:23, 2 March 2015 (UTC)
- OK, PrimeHunter, let's talk over there. But if someone comes along in the meantime and creates a Template:HoverImage in Wikipedia, I won't object. -- WikiPedant (talk) 23:50, 2 March 2015 (UTC)
Septuagesima date template
Could someone create a template with a table of recent and upcoming dates for Septuagesima? [For use in the article on Septuagesima].
The desired content can be seen in the upper right-hand corner of this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Septuagesima&oldid=635436700 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yfff (talk • contribs) 17:42, 4 February 2015

Incumbent templates for other ex officio posts
Why not create incumbent templates like {{Incumbent pope}} for other offices (political, religious etc..,) too? That would be really helpful in updating articles if the office is an ex officio one of presidents, governors etc., One thing to keep in mind is such Incumbent templates, if created should render image names too, so that they too can be passed as parameters to other infoboxes. We can also group together political posts into a single template.
Example: {{incumbent french government|president|image=false}}
should output [[François Hollande]]
Can I do it boldy? Can we have a parent category for such templates too?

- That's what we should be using Wikidata for. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:34, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
- @Pigsonthewing:, Is it actually possible now? I thought that was in the to-do list of Wikidata Project. But even if it is not possible now, wouldn't it be easy to create templates now and update the template with Wikidata when available? --Jayarathina (talk) 13:54, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
Request for a World Population template
The world's population is used in several locations on Wikipedia and is constantly changing. Having a template will allow updates to be made without editing all of the corresponding options. The template should output a numerical value or a text equivalent. I.e. 7 billion or seven billion. Some optional features it would be nice to have:
- text=yes → set to no will output a number rather than a word
- sigfig=1 → using a higher number will give more precision
- asof=now → inserting a year will give the world population for that year, within a limited range.
Thank you. Praemonitus (talk) 16:25, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
- Note there is a {{Data world}} template, which is similar but not the same. Praemonitus (talk) 16:30, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
- It would be a good idea if such a template also inserted the source of the data, since there may be varying estimates. Ivanvector (talk) 19:35, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
