Wikipedia:Requests for feedback/2011 February 5

I've looked over DocSTAR, and it feels like it was written by the company's publicity or sales department, rather than as an encyclopedia. Think back to the encyclopedias you used during school: Did their contents feel like this?

Also, Wikipedia never uses the ™ or ® symbols, so those should be removed. You need a proper bibliographic citation for the Inc. magazine claim. I don't understand what the "integrations" list is about (a list of famous customers, maybe? That wouldn't be encyclopedic information.) WhatamIdoing (talk) 01:02, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

The article is about an artist, a visionary, Batuz (77) who created Societe Imaginaire (SI) (an imaginary society) dealing with problems about "the border" and freedom. Articles were published for example in Harvard Review and on the official site of Batuz there are scanned copies of these article (as PDF). Should I make links to those files (individually) or just give a link (as a reference) where the information can be found.

Thanks!

I started this userspace draft some time ago. I know that there is "List of The Transformers characters", but it's sections on Autoots and Decepticons looks terrible. Not to mention filled with original research. describing a character as a specific vehicle seems original research, considering how Hasbro and Takara never acquired any licenses from vehicle manufacturers back in the '80s. So, the characters' resemblance to certain vehicles must be little enough that they never risked a lawsuit. Also, that "Status:Alive/Deceased" bit looks like a major assumption. Just because we've never seen them die on-screen, does that "confirm" that they survived the series? (Also doesn't quite work the other way around.)

Also, if that list article was properly written,I'm sure it would be too big for one page. A good reason for my article draft. I hope I can make a Decepticon list some day (or somebody else does).

So... any suggestions? Are there any good sources I can use as references for this article? Any episodes that give good descriptions of a character? NotARealWord (talk) 18:42, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Story of the Military Father of GPS - Does this meet the criteria of an excellent wikipedia post? How do I move this Public and Where Do I put it? Jim

I moved it for you. It goes under its title ("Francis X. Kane"), stripped of the various supplemental stuff like his degree. See it live at Francis X. Kane Tkotc (talk) 21:10, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I got some feedback yesterday. Rewritten based upon that. I've submitted it and it's in the queue. Can someone approve it for me?

I would appreciate a review and the unreviewed template removed. I also attempted to resolve the Orphan tag with no success, so any advice would be welcome.

Hi all, I've whipped up my first article. Its about a luthier called Patrick Hufschmid. As this is my first article, I'd like to request feedback on it from people who are more in the know ;) Thanks very much in advance for any and all feedback. Cheers, C

2011-02-06: Thanks for the feedback :) I'll go have a hunt around for more references! :D

Your subject looks interesting and (said as an owner of an old Martin) his work does too. But the difficulty I see is that you haven't really put in enough evidence of "notability". So what does this mean. Looking at Wikipedia:Notability (people) you can see the basic test: "A person is presumed to be notable if he or she has been the subject of multiple published secondary sources which are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject." This last phrase means that interviews with the subject don't count. (Although you can still keep them in the article, generally as External links). I highly recommend you find more references in external sources to your subject and his work. Tkotc (talk) 03:33, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

General feedback, help with displaying logo in infobox. Mattdanna (talk) 22:58, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is my first article. I am unsure concerning referrencing, especially how to cite the same source more than once. I did not seem to be able to get the shortcut code to work. Additionally, how can one tell if a photograph is open for use?

I looked through the article to see which reference you were having trouble with. You have many references to items on brynmawr.edu, but you've handled them correctly as far as I can see. If there is a reference that you wish to use in more than one place in the article, you can use "named references". Look at the second paragraph under footnotes at WP:CITEFOOT. This can be frustrating if you don't type things exactly right: the tag needs the "/>" at the end of subsequent references. Does this help? If not, leave a more detailed explanation of what you're trying to do here or my user talk page and I'll try to help.
I cannot answer your photo question. I'll highlight that response so hopefully someone else can help you.Tkotc (talk) 02:26, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
