Hey folks! It's been a long time since I hopped in for an update. My wife came out to California for a visit. I'm not too sorry to say that hanging out with here has been taking up a lot of my volunteer time. Despite the slowdown, I've been working out how to best get the desirability metric up and running in Snuggle. While I consider how to implement the metric in real time, I put together a wirte-up (meta:Research:Newcomer_desirability_modeling) describing how I compute the "desirability" of new editors. This will be surfaced to you as a "desirability probability" in the interface.

I hope to actually start polling WP:STiki's API for scores of newcomer edits by next week. --EpochFail(talkwork) 16:26, 7 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Just checking in. I got side-tracked on a project for WikiSym. I haven't forgotten about Snuggle by a long shot, but deadlines often get in the way of continuous work -- especially when I don't have may hours to spare. I'm also working on a presentation about Snuggle for Wikimania. I hope that by the time Wikimania rolls around, we'll have some solid evidence about whether Snuggle works or does not.

The good news (for my wiki work anyway) is that I'm nearing the end of my Google contract and preparing to move back to the research lab in Minnesota. In between Google and GroupLens Research, I'll have about a week of time to get some solid work done on Snuggle. I plan to make substantial leaps in the utility of Snuggle during that time. The increase in programming efficiency when I get to work for more than an hour long block and don't have to fight motion sickness, I expect to be monumental.

In the meantime, I plan to post some of my prelim results related to my research for WikiSym in about a week to placate the masses watching this page waiting for me to get Snuggle work done. ;)
