Unused template that might have been intended as a sandbox (five years ago). Basically duplicates {{primary sources}}. WhatamIdoing (talk) 22:21, 7 January 2013 (UTC)

The result of the discussion was keep, now that it has been rewritten, but someone should the transclusions for dead links. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 05:06, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
- Template:AFL player (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)
hopeless broken after a revamp of the website. luckily we still have other sources for profile information. it would be possible to recreate this template to use the new format, but all the transclusions would have to be changed, since the new format uses first-last as the profile ID, rather than a numeric ID, and none of the redirects are working. also, the historic profiles have all been removed, so it would only work for current players. 198.102.153.2 (talk) 21:32, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
- keep. I've been meaning to attempt to contract the AFL about their website changes and whether they have finished changing things and any of the old player profiles will return. Note that this template is a sub template for the individual club templates like Template:Brisplayer so the impact is greater than just this template. I think it is used on more than 500 pages, and i would hope that some smart coding in the template or a bot run to modify the parameters to match the new style would be preferential to deletion. The-Pope (talk) 02:02, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- And after fighting through the intricacies of template parameters, I've managed to implement a solution that works with most of the existing articles. If the wikipedia page name doesn't match the AFL club site player page, normally due has a disambiguation term, apostrophe or middle initial, then a
link=
term can be added. Thealt=
parameter is also still there to change what is displayed on the page. See Brent Harvey for an "untouched" example that now works, Jack Steven for an updated straight-forward vanilla version and Clinton Jones (footballer) for a page with both link= and alt=text. So it is no longer "hopelessly broken". The-Pope (talk) 06:43, 8 January 2013 (UTC)- comment it looks like Paul Kelly (footballer) and Setanta Ó hAilpín and pretty much any article that doesn't match "First Last" is still broken (128 out of 567), in addition to any that are profiles of former players (certainly quite a few). this is still a mess. we should mark any that don't use the new "link" parameter as a dead link, and have a bot (or human) check each one to see if it is fixable. Frietjes (talk) 16:30, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- update, I was able to fix the articles with disambiguation, so now only about 28 out of 567 are broken due to not matching the correct pagename pattern, however I estimate over half are still broken due to not having profiles on the site. Frietjes (talk) 16:39, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- I meant to edit my comments to make it clear that it still only works for current players, not retired players, as the past player profiles don't exist at the moment on the external websites. Thanks for getting the dabbed pages to work automagically. XfD shouldn't be used for cleanup, but this has at least prompted us to have something that does work for most current players, and can work for all current players without much additional effort. The-Pope (talk) 22:48, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- update I have received a response from one of the AFL club's Digital Media Officers and she said that the new websites will have the old player information uploaded at some time, but it is a staged implementation. The-Pope (talk) 00:04, 17 January 2013 (UTC)

- Delete. Unused except for WikiCup, and they need to use non-country flags so often they should have a better way of dealing with it. (I'm sure they do.) — This, that, and the other (talk) 06:46, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- yes, they use either {{flagicon image}} or {{click}}. 198.102.153.2 (talk) 19:42, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- Delete, but only because there's a better way with the click or flagicon image templates. Otherwise I'd say "keep", because utility is more important than the name of the template. Nyttend (talk) 02:41, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

The result of the discussion was move to User:Steven (WMF)/Agora Green Button, if someone wants to move it elsewhere, go right ahead. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 01:28, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
Unused, linked from nowhere except a sandbox, the button itself leads nowhere. Rcsprinter (orate) @ 17:34, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
- Comment: The point of the button is to represent a real button that aligns with the Wikimedia Foundation Design styles in use. It's not in use at the moment, but is something we will need to just recreate at some point if it gets deleted. The button is empty because you're supposed to use your own link destination, not a single default. I don't have an opinion really about deletion, other than to say it seems pointless. Steven Walling (WMF) • talk 19:03, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
- Keep. Sounds like it will be useful in the future, especially with Agora being a new skin we will presumably get at some stage. However, it needs documentation and categories. — This, that, and the other (talk) 06:47, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- Sandbox code to maybe be used in some potential situation at an unspecified future point should probably be kept in userspace. Templatespace is for living code of actual importance to the present running of the project. Chris Cunningham (user:thumperward) (talk) 12:46, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- Move to project space. WP:Angora/Green Button should do. Someone should then write a WP:Angora overview of the thing. -- 76.65.128.43 (talk) 11:28, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

I'm not exactly sure this navbox is necessary. It navigates between four related articles that look pretty extensively interlinked already (and a 5th link to an article section, which I removed). The same functionality could reasonably be duplicated by "See also" links as well. Axem Titanium (talk) 05:46, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
