editBohemia Interactive templates
edit- The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed deletion of the template below. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the template's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was merge Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 22:40, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
- Template:ARMA (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)
- Template:Bohemia Interactive (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)
- Template:Real Virtuality engine software (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)
Propose merging Template:ARMA with Template:Bohemia Interactive.
There are currently three heavily related templates. I propose they be merged back together into Template:Bohemia Interactive/draft. Odie5533 (talk) 21:31, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
- Merge - Seems sensible; lots of overlap and draft suggestion shows it working well. Sam Walton (talk) 21:40, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
- Don't Merge - Real Virtuality engine contains Iron Front: Liberation 1944 which was not developed or produced by bohemia interactive. ARMA contains more info not found in bohemia interactive template that was removed to reduce unneeded information on unrelated articles.—CKY2250 ταικ 01:07, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
- Remove templates if you see them as not needed on that article. Real Virtuality seems like it should only be used on that artiles page. —CKY2250 ταικ — Preceding undated comment added 01:09, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
- That's not really how navigational templates are used, particularly the comment about the Real Virtuality one being used on only a single page (see WP:NAVBOX). Generally navboxes are intended to link closely related articles to each other, and usually each article on the list has the template included in it. To that end, I think the navigation is adequately handled by a single template. And even if no other changes were made, I definitely think the Template:Real Virtuality engine software one should be deleted. That one in particular is really not that useful and adequately served by a category. --Odie5533 (talk) 01:17, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

- Template:Sam Bailey (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)
There are only four links of total relevance; Bailey herself, The Power of Love, Skyscraper and Compass. The others are only partial matches which I do not consider to qualify under WP:NENAN. Launchballer 19:18, 30 March 2014 (UTC)

- Template:Infobox Tennis Grand Slam events (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)
Propose merging the above templates into Template:Tennis events.
Documentation for {{Infobox Tennis Grand Slam events}} reads:
{{TennisEvents}} exists as an alternate version of this template. It is to be used for mixed competitions which are not Grand Slams. {{TennisEvents2}} also exists. It is to be used for men's only or women's only competitions. There is also {{TennisEvents3}} which is used for the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships and the Cellular South Cup, and {{TennisEvents4}} which is used for the 2000 Tennis Masters Cup. Any content changes made here should be updated in those templates as well.
and so on for the others. A clear case of redundancy, and an unnecessary need to duplicate work when making updates. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 17:56, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
- If you can show the same result in one template, that will be a lot of if statements then go for it, as long the end result don't suffer then go for it. Put it is really unnecessary to do it. Dencod16 (talk) 22:04, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
- Merge - Provided that the fields and functionality of {{TennisEvents2}}, {{TennisEvents3}}, {{TennisEvents4}} and {{Infobox Tennis Grand Slam events}} are transferred into {{TennisEvents}}.--Wolbo (talk) 08:23, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

Redundant to {{Infobox tennis event}}. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 17:51, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
- I don't think that's right. {{Infobox tennis event}} covers tournaments, such as Wimbledon. {{Infobox tennis match}} covers individual matches within a tournament. The two are orthogonal and most of the important details don't overlap between the two. Chris Cunningham (user:thumperward) (talk) 12:42, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

A number of templates for individual tournaments; redundant to the generic template. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 17:25, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
- Procedural question: what precisely happens if a merger proposal like this is accepted? How exactly would the different templates be merged into one? Would all fields and functionality be maintained?--Wolbo (talk) 18:57, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
- Usually yes, but that depends on the outcome of the discussion. We might, for example, reach consensus that parameter Foo in template Bar is not needed. Once a merged template is created, we have several options to deploy it. If some of the nominated templates are low-use, they can simply be replaced, article-by-article. If they have a high usage, we might make them a wrapper for the new template> We then have the option to 'subst: them. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:07, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
- Isn't {{infobox tennis event}} the correct merge target here? It's massively more comprehensive than {{infobox tennis tournament}}. Chris Cunningham (user:thumperward) (talk) 12:44, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
- No, the template {{infobox tennis event}} is used for the annual editions of a tournament (e.g. 2005 Torneo Godó) which is why it is used more frequently. The tournaments themselves (e.g. Torneo Godó) use either {{Infobox ATP Tennis Tournament}}, {{Infobox WTA Tennis Tournament}} or {{Infobox joint Tennis Tournament}}. --Wolbo (talk) 17:40, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
- See Tennis events infoboxes section, above. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 21:03, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
- Merge - But it requires that the generic {{infobox tennis tournament}} is adapted to allow the different types of tournaments (ATP, ATP Challenger, ITF Women's Circuit, WTA, WTA 125s) as separate sections within the infobox. This would be similar to the setup of {{infobox joint Tennis Tournament}}, which has an ATP and WTA section (see example), although the fields in each section of this template are hard-coded (e.g. ATP_Prize_Money, WTA_Prize_Money) and that is probably not the best setup. Perhaps the addition of a field tournament 'Type' (e.g. Type_1=ATP World Tour, Type_2=WTA Tour) would be useful where each Type has its own set of fields (Category_1, Draw_1, Prize_Money_1).--Wolbo (talk) 14:32, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
