- The photo of the Rama I monument needs replacement with one taken a better time of the day to avoid the shadow in the face.
- Where is the statue? I can probably try to get there sometime and get a new photo. I presume more generally any photo/picture of Rama I would be good. --KayEss 09:05, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- It's at the Memorial bridge on the Bangkok side, next to the Tha Saphan Phut express boat stop. IIRC I went there in early afternoon, probably either later afternoon or early morning should have the sun low enough to avoid the shadow. But I will be in BKK in Janury as well, if I come to there I will try myself as well. andy 09:34, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Wikipedia Meetup in Thailand
Meeting 2005
I (User:Ahoerstemeier) will be on vacation in Thailand from January 9 to January 28 2005. It be great if a meetup of those Wikipedians in Thailand would take place during that time, as I am keen on meeting those in person I only interacted online so far. I will be traveling around Thailand (but haven't fixed my schedule of the trip yet), and will also spend some time in BKK, which would probably be the best place to do such a meeting. andy 19:52, 23 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Afraid I'm probably out- weekdays are schooldays, and Bangkok's a bit far to travel to and from on a weekend. Mark1 07:29, 5 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- I am available any day. Just call me on 01 343 7918 (mobile) or 02 691 1280 (home) Waerth 11:29, 6 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- I saved your numbers in my mobile now, so I will contact you once I am in BKK and recovered from jetlag. Maybe the best date would be January 15, as de:Benutzer:Media_lib (who'd come from Phitsanulok) is only available on weekends. For location any place in BKK is OK for me, I'm staying in Thonburi. A restaurant, easily reachable by car and not too much luxury will do. I'll talk with you by phone to learn where we meet, as I probably won't be able to check here often. andy 19:34, 6 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- I am so sorry that I cannot be in BKK on that day. I will be on Petchabun due to my job as a translator... :-(--Ramendra 14:25, 7 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- I'll come by car from Phitsanulok that day and stay until Sunday. --Media lib 15:36, 9 Jan 2005 (UTC)
As nobody else has suggested somewhere I think maybe Cabbages & Condoms on Sukhumvit soi 12. — KayEss | talk 08:34, 13 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- Sounds ok ...... easy for me ...... my numbers are: 01 343 7918 mbile and 02 691 1280 (home) Waerth 02:19, 14 Jan 2005 (UTC)
As there aren't any other ideas I'll try to book a table under the name Wikipedia for 8pm then. — KayEss | talk 06:41, 14 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- Just spoke with Andreas sounds good to him .... So that will be four persons. Waerth 06:45, 14 Jan 2005 (UTC)
There's a table booked for wikipedia.com, outside, for six people. The number of the place is 02 229 4611. It is on Sukumvit soi 12 — KayEss | talk 04:53, 15 Jan 2005 (UTC)
To make a short roundup: As you see our first WP meeting in Thailand (Asia?) has happened and we shared a lot of insights: one Dutch, one Norwegian-UK, two Germans - and my Thai wife (shooting the photo above with a norwegian DC under GNU-FDL and very happy to see that the name of the place was exaggerated).
Might be that some of us will start a project fostering articles in Thai language.
One of our highlights: the call by Jimbo showing interest in our work on the far side of the moon ;-). --Media lib 11:57, 19 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Meeting 2006
As I (User:Ahoerstemeier) will be in Thailand in January again, how about doing the same again, hopefully this time with some Thai wikipedians as well? And I promise I will try to be on time this time, so I won't miss any highlights like Jimbos phonecall this time. As probably a weekend date is best, and my wife already made an appointment in BKK on February 5, I would tentatively suggest to meet in evening of February 4. andy 13:10, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
- I'll be in BKK at this weekend, so it's just fine for me. Maybe at a less compromising place (name) ;-). KayEss would like Admiral's Pub (?). --media_lib 16:11, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
- My wife already moved that appointment without telling me, so I am not sure anymore whether I am in BKK that weekend or not. I'll try to get an updated travel plan from my wife ASAP. andy 17:13, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
- I will be in BKK on January 21, and will probably return to BKK from the North on February 4th. So January 21 will be better, but maybe the 4th can be an alternative date. andy 12:01, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
- Hmm. I will have to attend a wedding of a close colleage on the night of January 21th. -- Lerdsuwa 15:28, 4 January 2006 (UTC)
- 22nd would also be fine for me. andy 17:32, 4 January 2006 (UTC)
- I'm afraid I haven't been much use around here for the past year, but would still like to hook up. I'm not sure what my plans are early next year so I'll just book this in and arrange other things around it. User:KayEss 07:20, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
- 22nd would be fine if it is afternoon (1600) or evening (2200) as I have to play at rama IX cafe with my comedygroup. We could also meet at Rama IX cafe offcourse! And enjoy Thai comedy, we should sit a bit at the back though ;) .... Thai partners would like that ;) Waerth 08:49, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
22nd is today. Is anything happening? Don't think I can make this evening now though as I have to take my wife to the airport. Is everybody available on the 4th? KayEss | talk 07:05, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
Constituency boundaries
Does anyone know where I can find maps of the electoral constituency boundaries? I have tried asking the Electoral Commission, but they seem to think the boundaries are a state secret and won't let me see them, even when I offered to come to their offices and copy them myself. I have seen older boundaries at several websites, but not the current ones. Any suggestions? Adam 08:07, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
- The Election Commission provides the official list [1] at its web site, but I don't know about such maps being available. One could (though rather tediously) manually incorporate such information into existing maps, I suppose. Paul C 11:04, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
- What they have is the list of amphoe for each electoral constituency. And it may be changed in each election due to population fluctuation. -- Lerdsuwa 14:09, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for those comments. Yes I have seen the list at the ECT website, and since Wikipedia provides very nice provincial maps showing the amphoe boundaries I could create a set of maps that way (except that in some constituencies the amphoe are themselves divided), but it would be a very big job. So I am still hoping that someone has or will put the maps on line. Adam 12:34, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
Pantip.com
I have started a stub for Pantip.com, and almost immediately after I posted it, it was flagged for deletion. I was able to win a reprieve, but it now has a notability flag. I understand that Pantip.com is probably the largest Internet forum in Thailand. It is frequently referred to in the press (most recently in the case of Prince Jigme), however I need assistance to verify its notability. Any help from Thailand folks would be appreciated. -Wisekwai 18:29, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
- I agree with Wisekwai. User comments at the forums at Pantip.com have often been cited by the regular mainstream Thai press, both the english and thai publications. To me, that counts as notability. Patiwat 23:07, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Article titles: should Somdet, Phraya, Luang, and Ajahn be included?
My understanding is that honorifics should not be included in article titles. Thus Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom and not Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom; Bhumibol Adulyadej and not King Bhumibol Adulyadej or Prabat Somdet Phrachao Yuhua Bhumibol Adulyadej; Seni Pramoj and not Mom Ratchawongse Seni Pramoj. But some articles still include title in the article names, e.g., Phraya Phahol Pholphayuhasena (should be Phahol Pholphayuhasena), Phraya Manopakorn Nititada (should be Manopakorn Nititada), Ajahn Chah (should be Chah), and Somdet Kiaw (should be Kiaw). Are these 4 examples just incorrectly titled, or are they allowed exceptions to the rule? Patiwat 10:20, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
- Seeing as Phahol Pholphayuhasena isn't his name either, that wouldn't be right, as it'll just cut up the title into pieces. I believe the articles should be at Phot Phahonyothin, etc. though. Paul C 19:54, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
- For Thai people of the 20th century it's relatively easy, as everyone have a civil name. However in the past many of the names were titles given with the position in administration, preceded by its rank. Ajahn Chah is a different case - it's maybe comparable with Mother Theresa, as Ajahn means "Teacher". While it's not the actual name of this monk, it is the name he is best known with. andy 20:49, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
Help needed on 2006 Southeast Asian haze
Hello! A number of people are working on the page. However, due to the composition of the participants, there is concern that the page is skewed towards Malaysia and Singapore. It would be great if Wikipedians from Thailand could expand the section on Thailand, thus making the article more balanced. Thanks! -Wisekwai 08:43, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

Frustration
I've been here for a little while now and have been spending some time on Thai articles and only found this noticeboard today. By chance.
I'm wondering if somebody could point to me any other pages that I should be aware of?
I have already commented on the 'Thai manual of style' (not called that I know, but the proper name escapes me for the moment) but I'm not sure I'm aware of anything else that may be relevant.
KayEss 18:06, 27 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- I've now put a pointer on Talk:Thailand and Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Thailand, hopefully that will help someone browsing through the WP finding here. Also we should make it common practice that if anyone notices a new contributor working on Thai topics (or coming from TH), then adding an invitation on that user's talk page. andy 22:39, 28 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Military History task force
I am trying to establish a "Far East task force," sub-section of the Military history WikiProject. If you're already working on military history articles, then all you need to do is offer your support and add your name to a list of task force members. You're already doing the task force's work; we don't ask much more than that. The link to my task force proposal is here: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Military_history#Far_East_Task_Force_Proposal. Thank you. LordAmeth 15:57, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
