Wikipedia:The squint test
This page in a nutshell: If a supposed username violation requires other users to "squint" at it in order to see it, it probably isn't a violation worth reporting to administrators |
Sometimes users patrolling for problem usernames to report become overzealous, leading them to make noticeboard reports based more on imagination than fact. If your report requires a complex explanation to be understood, there is a good chance you are imagining a problem where there isn't one and you should probably re-examine the logic that led to your actions. Users often make reports based on speculation, asking for new users who have never even edited to be blocked. While some usernames are so wildly inappropriate as to warrant blocking them regardless of their edits, there are many names that are perfectly fine if we assume good faith and only seem sinister if one uses their imagination to make them so.
