Working in a sandbox
When you find an article you want to translate, you'll want to copy and paste that article into your sandbox to start working on it. However, it is crucial that you not miss this step: you must provide copyright attribution before saving when doing so. But it is not difficult:
- Before you save the content of the foreign article you have pasted, find the edit summary field.
- There, provide a statement of your translation, together with an interlanguage link to the source (translated-from) article.
- Example (using French):
Content in this edit is translated from the existing French Wikipedia article at [[:fr:Exact name of French article]]; see its history for attribution. - Now you may save the page.
The "sandbox" where you will do this is a personal wikipedia page where you can experiment, practice editing, plan out articles, or begin drafting articles before moving them into Wikipedia's article "mainspace”—where live articles are read and edited.
To go to your default sandbox page, simply click the Sandbox link, which can be found at the top right whenever you are logged in.
