Welcome to WikiProject U.S. Streets. Some Wikipedians have formed this collaboration resource and group dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of U.S. Streets and the organization of information and articles on this topic. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions and various resources; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians interested in the topic. If you would like to help, please join the project, inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list below.
Scope
editThe scope of this project is two-fold:
- To cover city streets in articles that focus on the local roadway(s) of an urbanized area
- To coordinate with city-level or state-level wikiprojects as well as WP:USRD on these articles
Goals
editThe main goal of this project is to work on city and local streets and get them to Featured articles on Wikipedia. By removing these articles from the scope of WikiProject U.S. Roads, that not only clarifies what both projects are intended for, but creates a forum for users from city projects (such as WikiProject Philadelphia, WikiProject New York City) and the other roads projects.
Relationships
editGuidelines
editNotability guidelines
editStreets are generally not notable. To be considered notable, the street should pass one of the following criteria:
- The street has become synonymous with an industry or organization (Wall Street, Pennsylvania Avenue, Madison Avenue, Fifth Avenue),
- The street was the site of an important historical event (Clark Street),
- The street has been mentioned by name in a major motion picture, song, television show, or other mainstream media (Wacker Drive, Santa Monica Boulevard, Sunset Boulevard)
- The street has been the subject of a documentary or an article in a major media source.
- It is otherwise notable, as described at Wikipedia:Notability.
