Tip of the Day
editTip of the moment...
Join the fight against vandalism
Wikipedia is currently fighting a war on vandalism. Wikipedia is vandalized many thousands of times per day, with most of these occurrences corrected within minutes or even seconds. This requires many volunteers in an organized effort to repair this damage. The Wikipedians on the front lines of this battle are the members of Wikipedia's intrepid Counter-Vandalism Unit (CVU). The CVU has developed specialized tools, procedures, and initiatives for fighting vandalism on Wikipedia. You can be of great service to Wikipedia by joining the CVU. – – To add this auto-randomizing template to your user page, use {{totd-random}}

Good article reassessment
Wikipedia:Good article reassessment (GAR) is a process primarily used to determine whether an article that is listed as good article (GA) still merits its good article status according to the good article criteria, and to delist it if not. There are two types of reassessment: individual reassessment and community reassessment. Where possible, editors should conduct an individual reassessment, while community reassessment should be used if delisting is likely to be controversial. – – To add this auto-updating template to your user page, use {{totd3}}
|
The Tip of the Day project provides a different piece of advice for using Wikipedia every day. Like the Picture of the Day, you can include it on your userpage by adding {{totd}} somewhere (at the top of your talk page is a good place for it). The randomized version (displayed above) is {{totd-random}}, and shows a different tip each time it is displayed on your screen. Other formats for the TOTD exist, such as the more compact {{totd3}}, or you can make your own by including {{Wikipedia:Tip of the day/{{CURRENTMONTHNAME}} {{CURRENTDAY}}, {{CURRENTYEAR}}}} on your userpage (which includes the raw text, without any formatting) and then enclose it in your own formatting. To float the tip of the day to the right of content (as it is displayed here), place this code where you want the tip to show up: {{right|{{totd3}}}}.

Marilyn Monroe (1926–1962) was an American model and actress. One of the most popular sex symbols of the 1950s, she played stereotypically "dumb blonde" characters that were emblematic of the era's attitudes towards sexuality. After beginning her career as a pin-up model, she had two short-lived film contracts before being signed by 20th Century-Fox in 1951. The next year, scandalous nude photographs of her were featured in a popular calendar. She became one of the most bankable Hollywood stars with starring roles in comedies such as Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953), How to Marry a Millionaire (1953), and The Seven Year Itch (1955). Disappointed in being typecast and underpaid, Monroe formed her own production company in 1955 and successfully fought for a better contract with Fox. She received critical acclaim for her performances in Bus Stop (1956) and Some Like It Hot (1959), winning a Golden Globe for Best Actress for the latter. Her last completed film was the drama The Misfits (1961). Troubled by mental health and addiction problems, Monroe died of a barbiturate overdose in 1962. She continues to be considered a popular culture icon. This Associated Press photograph of Monroe was taken on September 9, 1954, during the filming of The Seven Year Itch on the streets of New York. She is wearing her white dress, worn in the "skirt scene" in which air from a subway grate blows up her skirt.
