TV shows
editPlacement of a YouTube or similar video of a TV show is permitted under the following circumstances:
The video is uploaded by an official source connected with the TV show concerned.
and:
- The show is not currently being aired on any major network (including cable), and has not been aired on any network for the past year
- The show is not readily available on DVD, Blu Ray or other media, for retail sale.
- The copyright holder has explicitly authorized the video be placed on the linked site,
or has lodged permission with the Wikimedia Foundation.
The link may be placed on the following types of pages (given fair use criteria):
- Articles about the show itself (either the parent article, an article about the particular episode, or a list of episodes including that one)
- As verification for a statement contained in an article
- In userspace, when the intention is to construct a future article
- In response to specific Reference Desk Enquiries.
Music
editLinks to songs may be placed in Wikipedia articles under the following circumstances:
- The copyright holder (such as artist, label or promoter) has authorized the video to be placed on the site
- The song was released and charted more than 5 years previously, and is not the subject of current
promotion.
The link may be placed on the following types of pages (given fair use criteria):
- Articles about the song
- Articles about the song's artist, given the song is mentioned in the article, and the link is relevant
- Other articles mentioning the song
- As verification for a statement contained in an article
- In userspace, when the intention is to construct a future article
Movies
editLinks to movies or clips of movies may be placed in Wikipedia articles under the following circumstances:
- The copyright holder has formally authorized the movie or clip be placed online, has lodged a permission with the Wikimedia Foundation, or where it is reasonable to assume the video is
officialy athourised (such as a video uploaded on an offical You Tube channel)
- The movie, in the particular version, has not been seen in theaters for one year or longer.
- The movie is available without additional charge or fee in respect of the clip or footage
linked.
The link may be placed on the following types of pages (given fair use criteria):
- Articles which relate directly to the movie.
- Articles relating to the movie, given the song is mentioned in the article, and the link is relevant
- As verification for a statement contained in an article, where a non video source would
be insufficient.
- In Userspace, when the intention is to construct a future article
- In relation to Reference Desk enquiries to support a specfic response.
Other criteria/notes
edit- There shall be a general presumption of good faith in respect of material (whose content or production style suggests lone amateur production)
- There shall be a general presumption of good faith in respect of material in which it is clear
that the uploader has a clear relation to the content linked (or it's production).
- External links to video found to be invalid, or removed at the request of a copyright holder
may be speedily removed.
- The right of a Copyright holder to request the removal of link by means of an appropriate notification, shall be unaffected by these guidelines.
