The Shipwreck Museum, Southern Africa - is a museum focusing on Shipwrecks along the South African Coast and the influence these wrecks had on the culture of the Strandveld.The Museum is situated in the quaint town of Bredasdorp, where you have to pass through on your way to the most Southern Tip of Africa, where the two oceans meet at Agulhas. The Museum consists of The Shipwreck Hall, The Old Rectory, The Coach House and a building with an exhibition named "A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE"

History and architecture

In 1967 the Municipality decided to incorporate serious methods for the establishment of a Museum. On 04 December 1968 the Bredasdorp Museum was proclaimed a Provincial-Aided Museum in the Government Gazette. The Shipwreck Museum focuses on Shipwrecks along the South African Coast and also provides visitors with detailed history of the establishment of the town, as well as certain historic events that took place over time. The Museum Building is a Victorian House and is U-Shaped. Johannes Du Toit (1840) was the very first owner and in 1865 it became the Independent Church and later the Anglican Church Rectory.
