This page documents the progress of the beetle project.
History
editThis project was founded on July 3, 2011 by User:John Troodon, who was a sockpuppet of User:Dromaeosaur Dude. Following a brief period of activity, it suffered a protracted period of decline, becoming semi-active and just nearly reached the inactive point. The project remained totally inert until late 2014, when it was revived by the efforts of a group of dedicated editors, including User:Gug01, User:Mishae (who was later blocked), User: Wilhelmina Will and User: Hectonichus. Since then, the project has expanded exponentially. There are now more and higher-quality articles about beetles on Wikipedia than at any other point in Wikipedia's history.

Checklist
editSo far there is a checklist for the big six (Staphylinidae, Curculionidae, Carabidae, Chrysomelidae, Cerambycidae and Scarabaeidae) and a checklist for the other families.
When to switch symbols
editPlease only replace a cross with a check mark if you:
- For genera: made the genus page with all species and synonyms for the genus. Redirect these synonyms to the genus page.
- For species: made the species page with all subspecies and all synonyms for the species. Redirect these synonyms to the species page.
- No family can complete the species criteria without completing the genus criteria first.
- For quality: made at least 1,000 non-stub articles and at least 50 are C-class or higher for the big six families; made 10% of existing articles non-stub for the other families.
- Extinct taxa: articles for extinct species do not need to be made. Articles for extinct genera are needed, and a lack of them disqualifies a family from getting a check mark for the genera and species criteria.
What the symbols mean
edit- An x mark means it has not been done.
- A question mark means it has been done but may need some checking because it is outdated; or that it is practically complete; or that it is difficult to determine (ex. if categories aren't set up correctly).
- A check mark means it has been done with no problems.
