Jim Rice barely misses Hall of Fame
by jj137
Jim Rice, a former baseball player who spent all 16 years of his career with the Red Sox, barely missed making the 2008 Hall of Fame.
Rice came 16 votes short of making the Hall. He received 392 votes in all, at 72.2%, short of the required 75%. Next year will be Rice's last chance at making the Hall of Fame.
Coincidentally, Goose Gossage, who made the Hall, said: "No hitter scared me, but Jim Rice came the closest."[1]
In the history of the Hall of Fame voting, any person who has reached at least 70% on a vote has eventually reached the Hall of Fame[2].
