Santana Deal
by jj137
In possibly the largest and most important baseball deal of the offseason, former Minnesota Twins pitcher Johan Santana was traded to the New York Mets in a six year, $137.5 million deal[1]. Because of this, he is becoming the highest paid pitcher in baseball history.
Originally, the Yankees and Red Sox were pursuing Santana; neither team was able to make any sort of deal. With Santana now going to the Mets, this obviously puts Santana out of the way for both teams (although the Yankees play the Mets in interleague each summer).
Santana has won two Cy Young Awards (2004 and 2006), a three-time All-Star (2005—2007), and a Gold Glove winner (2007).
