Description
editThere is also precedent for giving a POTUS his own WikiProject. Barack Obama, who admits he styles himself after Lincoln, has his own WikiProject. According to the stats, WP:OBAMA consists of 359 pages, including files, project pages, portals, categories, etc. Based on a recursive search of that category with AWB, there are 721 769 Lincoln articles within Category:Abraham Lincoln (note: the original figure missed the 31 in Category:Lincoln family and 17 I just categorized in Category:Lincoln Administration personnel) and it's subcategories. I imagine there is plenty of room to grow, as there are more than 14 notable non-fiction books on Lincoln, but only 14 in Category:Books about Abraham Lincoln at this time.
I have not led a project before, but I am committed to this subject and familiar with WikiProject functions through my membership with other projects. I envision devloping a WikiProject based in many ways on WP:OBAMA, including the development of Portal:Abraham Lincoln. – Muboshgu (talk) 21:48, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

- Please invite these and any other similar groups to join the discussion about this proposal. See Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council/Directory to find similar WikiProjects.
- Wikipedia:WikiProject United States (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs), especially the US Presidents taskforce
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Why do you want to start a new group, instead of joining one of these existing groups?
- Abraham Lincoln is too specific a subject to be handled by WP US or WP Biography alone, although there is clear overlap with them and reason to work with them. Many pages relating to Lincoln include only the above two projects. WP:Politics can also be consulted, but not all of his life falls under the rubric of politics.

Discussion
editI believe that this is a good idea, given the amount of material devoted to describing our 16th president. WikiProject Abraham Lincoln could work on improving other Lincoln-related articles, as well, such as the United States presidential election, 1860 article. DCItalk 23:56, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- I think its a solid idea and I think there's plenty of content. I only wonder if theres enough interest but I'll help out with what I can. --Kumioko (talk) 00:19, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- What about "WikiProject:American Presidents"? I believe more would join a bigger focused group and you guys thus could standardize all the pages. Merger the Presidents projects make each President a taskforces - That said I see no problem with enough articles to keep a group called Abraham Lincoln busy.Moxy (talk) 01:18, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- There is already a US Presidents wikiproject -- Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Presidents, so a WP American Presidents is not needed. 70.24.245.198 (talk) 04:45, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Thats the point make all the presidents task forces of the main project. But like I said before I do support the idea.Moxy (talk) 06:31, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

- Well, first of all I believe that Lincoln is a specialized subject of enough importance to merit a separation from relatively nondescript presidents who are not studied the way Lincoln is. Also, I would think that articles such as Early life and career of Abraham Lincoln, Abraham Lincoln in the Black Hawk War, Samuel Lincoln, Joshua Fry Speed and others that are important to Lincoln aren't under the purview of the US Presidents task force. – Muboshgu (talk) 18:28, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Not much of a project joiner but I wish you well. Do you want me to list my support, even though I won't probably join? Alanscottwalker (talk) 20:21, 23 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Sure. My understanding is that saying "Support" just means you support the project being created, not that you would commit to joining it. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:28, 23 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
