Description
editAs a potential cover-all project for the possible meeting of and mediation between all the sub projects - a way of dealing with inter-sub project issues (scope and boundaries) and the possible cleaning up of asia wide categories and templates - as there appears to be no central point for co-ordinating or establishing guidelines with the whole of asia in perspective. Also the improvement of the main asia articles and sub articles - also possible over time the devolution of some asia-wide categories and templates to the sub projects, as well as re-activating interest in sub projects that go defunct like south asia project. - SatuSuro 10:51, 30 August 2010 (UTC) I would be very interested in the project tagging and general going through the categories and templates over time - as a way of project management.[reply]
- John Carter (talk) 23:54, 30 August 2010 (UTC) - Not a bad idea. There is a definite possibility that one or more of the extant subprojects may become inactive, and having a parent to take over content is a good idea. There is also the matter of articles and topics which are directly relevant to Asia but not so directly relevant to individual countries or areas.[reply]
- Sounds sensible and useful Nick-D (talk) 05:21, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Sounds reasonable, though I think all the major regions of Asia should also have projects. (I think the only one missing is East Asia, if you count WP:RUSSIA as North Asia). 76.66.192.49 (talk) 13:00, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Canon Law Junkie §§§ Talk 22:57, 2 September 2010 (UTC) Would definitly join. Interested in Asian histoy.[reply]
Discussion
edit- Most of the sub projects already exist - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council/Directory/Geographical/Asia - the idea is to have the wider articles/categories/templates belong to a project to be managed over time - and where possible to be able to improve their coverage and weight/balance of the regions within asia SatuSuro 10:56, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Should this WikiProject be created, it might consider absorbing South Asia as a workgroup/taskforce. (keeping the WikiProject template intact) 76.66.194.106 (talk) 06:30, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- For http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Volcanism_of_Asia is for me a classic example of why I have proposed this project - the geological variance enclosed in this category is so disparate, it is close to nonsensical - it is my belief the volcanism should be separated into the sub-projects - so that they might have more semblance to meaning and relevance - and that the asian project should have those as sub-categories in this particular example - in other words no article should have 'volcanism in asia' as a category - but only a sub category (volcanism in central asia, volcanism in southeast asia etc). And when one looks at the categories with xxx in Asia - there a lot of categories to split into sub-categories so as to make some more logical schema SatuSuro 00:12, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
