WikiProject Barcode is created to improve and add new encyclopaedical information related with barcodes to the Wikipedia. Current information about barcodes is unorganized and looks like some blog. As a bright example we have article about application Barcode Scanner based on ZXing, but we don’t have any information about ZXing – powerful barcodes generation and recognition framework.

Because project Barcode touches barcodes specifications, barcode software and barcode related hardware also recognition and generation methods it is impossible to create single task force in any of these projects because project Barcode takes parts from all of them.

If you would like to help you could join to the project and add own task to Todo List or help improve existing tasks.

Goals

WikiProject Barcode aims to organise, expand and improve encyclopaedical information related with barcodes, also add new or improve existing articles about:

barcode types/symbologies;
barcode software and hardware tools;
usage barcodes in different areas of business and life;
barcode recognition/generation methods;
historical moments of barcodes usage and their influence;
rebutting with facts, esoteric theories about barcodes, like “Mark of the Beast”.

Scope

WikiProject Barcode scope is focused on barcode related topics including, but not limited to:

barcode types/symbologies;
barcode frameworks;
barcode software;
barcode hardware scanners/barcode label printers;
barcode applications in standards, like Swiss QR-Code;
barcode standardizing organizations like GS1, AIM, ISO
barcode related computer science articles;
barcode history.

User:Alexandr.gavriluk, WikiProjects (the groups themselves) are usually not successful when a lone editor wants to create one. Have you considered alternatives such as a task force, joining an existing group with a related scope, working informally or the other recommendations at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Guide#Before you begin? Yes I added description to barcode page WikiProject Software page and WikiProject Technology page. However, currently, I am not in too harry so I will continue improving barcode data in the wiki by myself. Alexandr.gavriluk (talk) 01:07, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
