Description
editThere are a number of articles relating in some way to interactions between humans and animals. These include articles on working animals, pest control, and human relationships with pets, for example. Thee does seem to me to be some significant overlap between these topics, and I believe it may well be in the best intersts of our project to help correlate and develop these related articles. - Why do you want to start a new group, instead of joining one of these existing groups?
- I think the scope of these topics in large part is specific enough and unique enough that, while each of the above groups is substantially related, the topic is different enough and substantive enough to merit its own group.

- John Carter (talk) 21:18, 24 June 2012 (UTC) - Would join and would try to be somewhat involved in the content, at least in peer review, assessment, and the like. I wish circumstances actually were such to give me more time to actually write, and, maybe, that might happen soon. John Carter (talk) 15:00, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Support and the occasional edit. Would definitely join. Brambleberry of RiverClan Chat ♠ Watch 23:03, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Support concept of Anthrozoology wikiproject; pending discussion of overall scope and refining a statement of purpose. Montanabw(talk) 16:01, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Discussion
edit- Having found the page that most clearly relates to the proposed subject of this group, I think WikiProject Anthrozoology would probably be the best name. John Carter (talk) 20:09, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Tentative support, though curious as to purpose and proposed scope before I vote. This is definitely a big enough project, but do we encompass stuff like dog shows and animal fancy too? Montanabw(talk) 22:21, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- The purpose is to, basically, provide some group which deals with the subject. My personal guess at this point would be that if an article is already indicated as being relevant to a more directly focused group, like WikiProject Dogs for Dog shows, we would leave that article to the more directly relevant project. Personally, I am going to try to find some reference sources dealing with the subject, of which I think at least one exists, and find what articles it includes. I would think that any articles included in a directly relevant encyclopedia would probably be most important to this project, and probably the highest priority for it. If that source has significant articles on Dog shows and the similar, then we might well be able to help there, and we may well include them in the scope. If the topics are considered so minor that the encyclopedia has no content about them, and if there is another group dealing with the topic already, we might well leave an article to them. I know that isn't a really clear and direct answer, given the conditional nature, but it's the best I can produce immediately. John Carter (talk) 01:03, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

- If this doesn't work out, you may want to consider adding it as a task force to WikiProject Animals. Brambleberry of RiverClan Chat ♠ Watch 20:18, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- I think this a good idea, but a focus is vital before this starts and does not seem to be forthcoming. What defines this project from WikiProject animals or Dogs or Cats or Horses, etc.? The articles listed above (pets, service animal) would be important, but these are still articles focused on animals. When seeing a Anthrozoology project, I would think that more pertinent articles would be domestication, animal worship, hunting, animal sacrifice, zoophilia, maybe anthropomorphism, things of that nature. I do think this project would be useful, but not without a stated and clear focus to prevent the scope from becoming impossibly broad and redundant. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 23:12, 1 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
