Description
editThis Wikiproject would deal with articles on rivers, creeks, streams, runs that are fully or partly in the state of Pennsylvania. --Jakob (talk) 00:59, 1 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

- Why do you want to start a new group, instead of joining one of these existing groups?
- I feel that WikiProject Rivers cannot efficiently manage the pages in its scope, as there are tens of thousands of notable rivers in the world. This WikiProject is on the small side, but at least there should be no administrative overload, and also I am actively and fairly rapidly creating more articles that would fit into the scope of this project. I also believe that there is precedent for this kind of WikiProject, see the Pennsylvania Roads WikiProject. As for the question of why Pennsylvania streams, it is really just because I happen to be active in this area and I would encourage others to set up similar WikiProjects for other states. Thank you for considering, --Jakob (talk) 01:17, 1 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

editAlso, specify whether or not you would join the project.

- - wouldn't join - no real issue whether a taskforce or wikiproject (unless assessment tables can't be done for a taskforce, in which case I'd strongly advocate for a wikiproject. Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 06:23, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Discussion
editWhile this is a good idea in theory, I know from past experience that there are very few editors working on these streams. I used to but am not able to spend much time here anymore, Jakec is working on them now and doing a good job, there are a few others who have done some systematic work on PA streams (Gjs238, Kmusser and Choess come to mind). However, a Wikiproject generally needs several dedicated members to be effective and successful, so I am not sure this would be worth pursuing. Sorry, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 05:46, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
- I suppose it is no more esoteric than the Banksia WikiProject really. The key I think is whether you can have an automated comprehensive assessment table such as the one at the top of Wikipedia:WikiProject Banksia/Article notes for a taskforce or only for a discrete wikiproject. If one can do this for a taskforce then this discussion is moot and I think I'd say just tweak for a taskforce. If it is easier to do bot-run things only for a wikiproject then go for that. - I would not oppose this project, but I'm not sure why I got a notice about it, other than copyediting articles. Bearian (talk) 16:23, 4 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Why not cover all bodies of water? Lakes, ponds, marshes, canals as well. -- 70.24.250.235 (talk) 09:56, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
