Description
editThis would be a project for improving and creating submarine-related articles (e.g. Submarine, Virginia class submarine). WikiCopter (radio • sorties • images • shot down) 21:47, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

edit- WP:SHIPS and WP:MILHIST already cover the subject. Brad (talk) 17:09, 24 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Ships and Milhist both cover submarines, ex Talk:USS Los Angeles (SSN-688) Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 23:54, 24 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Subject already thoroughly covered by the two aforementioned projects. The notable submarines that is, this proposal would cover those subs which likely would not meet notability requirements. -MBK004 05:07, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Disregard the IP, I'm WikiCopter. Ships and MILHIST cover submarines only as part of their scope. Shipwrecks is covered by Ships, why then do we have it? Submarines would only cover submarines, perhaps as a child of Ships. 24.22.182.201 (talk) 17:42, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Discussion
edit- Doesn't WP:SHIPS already cover submarines? I don't really see any need for creating an entirely separate project for them, given the heavy coverage by other projects in the area. Kirill [talk] [prof] 05:32, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- WPSHIPS doesn't cover small submarines or small ships. There needs to be something like WP:BOATS to cover ships smaller than what WPSHIPS covers. 76.66.199.238 (talk) 07:24, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Again, I'm WikiCopter editing from this IP. True, Ships does cover submarines, however, Ships also covers Shipwrecks, and we have a project for that. As submarines are also an emerging capital ship (some sources state), after aircraft carriers and battleships, it would be easier to cover subs with an alternate project. Battleships are Ships, Submarines are Submersibles. 24.22.182.201 (talk) 17:44, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- The Shipwrecks project is mostly abandoned. About a year or more ago I suggested a merge of shipwrecks into ships but was met with major drama by one person who thought an abandoned project that's essentially covered by a very active one was worth keeping. I dropped the subject because I'm not a lover of drama. I'm sure that the conversation is still on the shipwreck talk page. Brad (talk) 06:30, 20 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- An active project covered by an active project is even better. WikiCopter (radio • sorties • images • lost • defense • attack) 20:34, 20 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

- NOTE: New proposal for WP:BOATS — Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals/Boats. -- 76.66.199.238 (talk) 08:46, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There is a suggestion for a Maritime WikiProject, to umbrella WP:SHIPS, and take care of boats as well, see WT:WikiProject Maritime Trades. 65.93.14.196 (talk) 05:47, 14 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- There is now Wikipedia:WikiProject Transport/Maritime transport task force, which appears to cover things in "Maritime transport" not covered by WP:SHIPS. Which I think was the point of this proposal. Mlm42 (talk) 23:35, 25 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
