Description
editThis project is made for improving the quality of the articles surrounding the formation of the United States of Indonesia. The United States of Indonesia is very different from the form of Indonesia today. The RUSI consisted of the Republic of Indonesia, six independent states, and eight autonomous entities. This structure of state is very similar to Russia today, a federation with republics in it. Due to the large amount of articles surrounding it, thus I feel the need to form a separate Wikiproject. - Wikipedia:WikiProject Indonesia (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Former countries (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Why do you want to start a new group, instead of joining one of these existing groups?
- Wiki Project Indonesia is very different to this group. Wiki Project Indonesia only comprise the articles relating to the Republic of Indonesia, while this project scope covers all of the United States of Indonesia, including Pasundan, East Indonesia, etc.
- WikiProject Former countries only covers former countries. This project also covers the states that break up from the United States of Indonesia, which still existed today in exile, such as the Republic of South Moluccas.
- Notes
I hope that this Wikiproject could be formed on 27 December 2019, on the 70th anniversary of the United States of Indonesia.

Neutral
edit- I think this is a topic that Wikipedia should cover in depth, given the lack of publicly available information, and I respect the work that Jeromi Mikhael has done (I thought I was the only one interested in this!), but I can understand the point Juxlos makes about Austria-Hungary. After all, how many books have actually been written about the United States of Indonesia? I suspect the answer is two (Schiller and A.A. Gde Agung). Perhaps a taskforce is the best option. - Oppose as stand-alone project, but support as taskforce/workgroup (subproject) of WP:WikiProject Indonesia. This is clearly an important meta-topic in the overall history of Indonesia, but there are too few articles and almost certainly too few interested editors to sustain an entire wikiproject. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 23:11, 16 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Discussion
edit- The United States of Indonesia existed for eight months - a WikiProject is a bit overkill. Even if there's 1,000 articles WP:Indonesia (which has a lot of redlinks) can easily absorb it. Besides, if we don't have WP:Majapahit or WP:Dutch East Indies making this makes no sense. Juxlos (talk) 01:25, 12 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
- @Juxlos: Thank you for giving your opinion.
- The scope of this article is from the establishment of the first state of the United States of Indonesia, the State of East Indonesia, on 24 December 1946. The Republic of South Moluccas — which still existed until today — is a breakaway state of the East Indonesia and thus falls into the scope of this article. The states of the United States of Indonesia has its own political elite — even East Indonesia has a bicameral legislative due to its huge size — and is very different from the Majapahit and Dutch East Indies. --Jeromi Mikhael (talk) 01:45, 12 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
- And it all perfectly falls under regular WP:Indonesia - everything in WP:USI would qualify under WP:Indonesia. 4-5 years of existence, 85% of which without any legal status, is simply not something worth a first level WikiProject. This is a task force at best, and if I remembered correctly there's more fingers in my left hand than editors active on USI topics. Even Austria-Hungary, a country which existed for an order of magnitude longer and frankly had much more complex things going on, is task force. Making this WikiProject will open a massive can of worms whereas hundreds upon hundreds of former states that existed with different structures to their current successor state and decades or centuries of existence will have much more to say for a WikiProject. - @Juxlos:So...what's your recommendation? Do you prefer a taskforce in WP:Indonesia or in WP:Former countries?--Jeromi Mikhael (talk) 13:45, 12 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
- WP:Indonesia is probably a better choice, to be honest, but former countries work too. The latter will probably get more editors though. Juxlos (talk) 13:47, 12 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
- @Juxlos: Does task force needs proposals too?--Jeromi Mikhael (talk) 13:48, 12 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
- No clue - best check the WP in question. Juxlos (talk) 14:02, 12 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
