It's always best to fix problems yourself, but when that's not possible, please refer to these instructions for using various templates intended for use by community of WikiProject Deserts. Also, please consider using the article's talk page in lieu of, or in addition to, using these templates.

Project outreach

Banner

Project banner {{Template:WikiProject Deserts}} can be added to talk pages. It gives this:

This template adds articles to Category:Articles of WikiProject Protected areas.
In order to avoid the page from being put into this category, use the following:

{{WikiProject Deserts|category=no}}

Navbox

Using {{Deserts}} results in the following:

This navbox should be placed at the end of the article.

Infobox

Use Template:Infobox desert on top of those articles that do not have an infobox.

Requests

Stub

If you find desert-related articles that need attention, use the assessment in the talk-page banner template to keep track of them.

Stub articles on specific deserts should be marked with a geo-stub template for their specific location (e.g., {{Sindh-geo-stub}} on Anara Desert Wildlife Sanctuary

{{topography-stub}} should be used on stub articles about desert-related topographical terms, such as 'dune'.

Expansion

Expansion in usually needed in order to bring the article to C-class status.

Place {{Expand section}} on the top of section(s) that need expanding.

Cleanup

[Wikipedia:Cleanup|Cleaning up]] is required for articles that are expansive but have an inadequate format, grammatical or spelling mistakes, copy-right problems among other issues. Cleaning up is usually required to bring an article to a B-class status.

You can add {{cleanup}} banner on the articles that require cleaning up.

Infobox request

Infobox is very important in providing a quick general and specific information about deserts and other topographical landforms. An effort should be made to cite the data added.

Add {{Reqinfobox}} to talk page of the article.

Image requests

Add {{Reqmap}} and/or {{Image requested}} on the talk page of the article.

• You may also list yourself in the Category:WikiProject Deserts participants by adding the following to your userpage:

Inclusion of the userbox to a page will automatically add that page to the user category.

{{User WP Deserts}} can be added to user pages. It gives this:

• If you also want to join WikiProject Geography, then use {{User WikiProject Geography}} userbox.

This user is a member of
WikiProject Geography.

This would add you to Category:WikiProject Geography participants. You may also list yourself in this category by adding the following to your userpage:

[[Category:WikiProject Geography participants|{{subst:PAGENAME}}]]

You should also manually add your name to the list of participants at WikiProject Geography.

Interest

• If you do not plan to work extensively, but are interested in deserts, add {{User interest deserts}} to your user page.
  • This would add you to the Category:Wikipedians interested in deserts.

• You can also use {{User interest geography}} if you interested in a wider scope of geography topics.
  • This would add you to the Category:Wikipedians interested in geography.

Geography.

Outreach

Invitation

• You can invite other Wikipedians by placing {{subst:WP Deserts Invite}} on their talk page.
  • This template is designed to be subst'd on a user's talk page, for the purpose of inviting them to participate in the WikiProject.
  • Note: When transcluding this template, you must "subst:" the template. The template won't work unless the "subst:" prefix is added. You also don't need to sign, a signature is included in the template. For example: {{subst:WP Deserts Invite}}
  • You can also add the name of an desert-related article that user has shown interest in.
    For example: {{subst:WP Deserts Invite|Name of the article}}
• Once again, please remember to substitute like this: {{subst:WP Deserts Invite}} (DO), rather than {{WP Deserts Invite}} (DON'T).

Welcoming

• You can welcome new members by placing {{subst:WP Deserts Welcome}} on their talk page.
  • This template, like the one mentioned above, is designed to be subst'd on a user's talk page, for the purpose of welcoming them to the WikiProject. A signature is already included in the template. {{subst:WP Deserts Welcome}}
• Remember to use as: {{subst:WP Deserts Welcome}} (DO), rather than {{WP Deserts Welcome}} (DON'T).

Awarding

• You can award an editor by placing {{subst:WP Deserts Barnstar|message ~~~~}} on his/her excellent or admireable work on desert-related articles. See original template.
  • Use as: {{subst:WP Deserts Barnstar|message ~~~~}} (DO), rather than {{WP Deserts Barnstar}} (DON'T).
    • Replace message with the information. For example: "I award XYZ with this barnstar for..."
    • Message would automatically be signed as long as care is taken not to remove ~~~~ at the end of the message.
