Wikipedia:WikiProject Fair use/Fair use image sorting
As of October 2, 2005, there were 17,758 images and audio clips in Category:Fair use images. Many of these fall into one of the blanket categories listed at Wikipedia:Fair use#Images and Wikipedia:Fair use#Audio_clips, and should be re-tagged with a more specific fair use image tag. Many of the ones that do not fit into any of these blanket categories may be copyright violations. Re-tagging the images that fall into a blanket category will make it easier to deal with the copyright violations.
Some considerations
edit- A list of images that appear to be easy hits appear at the bottom of the page. These images have been pre-screened, so there shouldn't be too many false matches. Open the "edit" link next to the name of the and re-tag it. After saving, ensure the tag matches the type of image. Cross off or remove the image from the list after re-tagging so that others don't have to unnecessarily re-do work.
- A list of "fair use" image tags can be found at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. You may want to familiarize yourself with the other tags on the page as well, because a few images are tagged as "fair use" when they are really free.
- Unused "fair use" images can be speedy deleted if they have been on the site for seven days or more. These images can be tagged as {{db|CSD I5: Unused fair use}} or something similar.
- "Fair use" images with no source information should be tagged with {{nosource}}, and the uploader notified.
- If you want, you can use an edit summary of "Sort fair use image. [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Fair use/Fair use image sorting|You can help!]]" to draw the attention of others to this page.
Going through the category in gallery mode
editPick one of the following starting letters. View the category in gallery mode, and re-tag everything that looks like it could be tagged with a more specific tag. Anything that isn't obvious can be left where it is for now. Cross off the letters when done.
Lists of images to tag
editNo source
editTo help out here, simply click on the edit links. The {{subst:nsd}} template will be filled in for you. Simply click "Save page". After doing that, make sure there really is no source specified (this list was generated automatically so there may be the odd mistake) and notify the uploader. Remove or cross off images when done.
