As part of the annual Wiki Love Monuments contest, the Wikimedia Community Ireland will host three writing contests to take place through the months of September and October 2016. The aim is to expand a create articles in three categories: Irish Monuments, People and Places of 1916, and articles on Vicipéid.

Rules

The purpose of this contest is to engage more participants in Ireland's Wiki Loves Monuments contest in actually creating and editing articles on Wikipedia. All of the entries must fall under one of three categories: Irish Monuments, People and Places of 1916, and Vicipéid.

  • Articles must be worked on between 1 September and 31 October 2016.
  • Participants must list the articles they want to be considered with their username below.
  • Participants may work alone or in a team.
  • Participants may work on as many articles as they would like.
  • Only editing completed by 11:59 UTC on 31 October 2016 will be considered for scoring.

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded for the following in each category:

  • Best new article
  • Best expanded article
  • Best 'newbie' contributor

Each winner will receive a certificate, a barnstar on their user page, and a book related to the category they won in.

Points will be awarded as follows:

New article 3 points
1,000 bytes 1 point
Image added 3 points
Infobox added 3 points

Editing Workshop-NUI Galway

We will be holding an editing workshop at NUI Galway on 28 September 2016 from 5-8pm at the James Hardiman Library, Nursing and Midwifery PC Suite. We will show newbies how to edit Wikipedia and help experienced editors with references, images, formatting, ect. All articles editing during the workshop are eligible for the writing contest. 1916 Wikipedia Writer's Workshop-Dublin

We will be holding a writer's workshop at the Science Gallery in Dublin on 18 October 2016 from 6:30pm-8pm in the Paccard Theatre. We will show newbies how to edit Wikipedia and help experienced editors with references, images, formatting, ect. All articles editing during the workshop are eligible for the writing contest.
