Progress
edit44% Complete (estimate)
| ||
As at January 17 2008, 483 suburbs are listed at List of Melbourne suburbs. 26 articles are complete, 143 are more than 50% complete, 190 are between 45 and 25% complete, 107 are stubs and 17 have not been started. |
To do:
- As noted on Talk:To North, each of the 8 compass points in the diagrams like the 3x3 one that apprears below needs to be replaced with the name of the given suburb; it's fairly urgent that those that cannot be filled in immediately be replaced with something like "(replace with name of N suburb)", to forestall creation of further pages like To North (which has since been deleted).
- In the next 18 hours, i hope to provide a tool (a page to be invoked using the "subst:" facility, and intsrtuctions for speeding the process, or perhaps finish it myself. --Jerzy(t) 10:14, 2004 May 24 (UTC)
- See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Melbourne/Suburbs
- Create mini-stubs for each suburb (not already created) as a framework for filling in details.
- Fill in suburb adjacency tables not already done.
- Add postcodes where missing.
Done:
- Work in progress
- we have added some 46 articles, mostly stubs, leaving about 35 articles, out of 425 listed still needing creation. I have had a concerted effort at detailing some of the northern suburbs articles, with the City of Moreland now pretty well fleshed out for all suburbs. So I have moved the progress bar up 4% to 25% complete. --Takver 10:49, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Naming Conventions
editAll suburbs should be accessible via (suburbname), Victoria.
- 99.9% of suburbs have the main article name at (suburbname), Victoria
- Some suburbs (which are better known as something other than a suburb) have the article at a different name, and the (suburbname), Victoria page is a redirect. Suburbs with slightly different names include:
- Other special cases that may need to be looked at:
If you are unsure of the name, please see List of Melbourne suburbs for a full list.
Directional suburbs are almost always named as XXX East, XXX North, etc. E.g. Hawthorn East, Fitzroy North, Pakenham Upper. (Note that the opposite is true for railway stations). This rule however, does not apply to Melbourne itself, where the direction comes before the name, e.g. West Melbourne, South Melbourne, and a few other exceptions, such as South Morang and West Footscray.
Example Article
edit- Blackburn South, Victoria (Thanks to AmishThrasher).
