Another Australian fighter ace and squadron commander of the North African campaign during WWII, who subsequently rose to lead two wings in the South West Pacific. Also briefly commanded the RAAF's fighter squadron in Korea. Always thought this GA-level article was on the cusp of A-Class and the announcement of his death this week spurred me to comb for any additional sources that might round things out. I think now -- barring any newspaper obits -- that I've succeeded in doing that and it should be ready for ACR. Note that I don't intend taking it any further than that until or unless additional reliable material comes my way re. his post-military work, which is scant at this stage. Support on prose per standard disclaimer. - Dank (push to talk) 18:29, 7 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Tks Dan. Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 01:02, 8 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Support - I reviewed at GA in 2010 and have had another read through it and can find nothing to fault it. A well written, neat, MOS compliant article that covers the topic well.
- No dab links [1] (no action req'd).
- External links check out [2] (no action req'd).
- One of the images lack Alt Text [3] so you might consider adding it for consistency (suggestion only - not an ACR requirement).
- The Citation Check Tool reveals no issues with reference consolidation (no action req'd).
- Images all appear to be PD and are appropriate to the article (no action req'd).
- The Earwig Tool reveal no issues with copyright violation or close paraphrasing [4] (no action req'd).
- No duplicate links per WP:REPEATLINK (no action req'd). Anotherclown (talk) 22:12, 7 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Tks AC, alt text added. Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 01:02, 8 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Support Comments: looks good, just a few minor suggestions:
- "as adjutant with the newly formed No. 11 Squadron" --> "as adjutant of the newly formed No. 11 Squadron"?
- I wonder if a link to Acting (rank) should be added, or Military rank#Types of rank;
- terminology, "some Allied commanders believed" --> "some United Nations commanders believed"? (Allies isn't a term I've heard used for the Korean War, although I could be wrong)
- "However Steege was backed up by the" --> "However, Steege was backed up by the"? (suggest the addition of a comma);
- "appointed chief instructor at the School of Land/Air Warfare in February 1952" --> where was this? Canberra or somewhere else?
- " and Mirage-equipped No. 3 Squadron after that" --> " and the Mirage-equipped No. 3 Squadron after that";
- "In 2010, he joined three of his fellow members of No. 3 Squadron" --> "In 2010, he joined three fellow No. 3 Squadron members..."?
- "died on 1 September 2013, aged 95" --> do we know the cause of death? AustralianRupert (talk) 05:20, 14 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Tks, Rupert, will get on to these later today I hope. I also have a few additional points to add from an obit Nick pointed out to me, but this should be matters of detail, not major alterations. Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 01:41, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Okay, all comments above actioned except cause of death, which wasn't reported. FYI, a subsequent edit will incorporate a few changes/additions based on the obit I mentioned. Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 06:13, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Cheers, Ian, your changes look good. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 08:14, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
