News The first issue of the Wikiproject Puerto Rico Newsletter was delivered! Portal:Puerto Rico was revamped with additional content, including Selected series of Articles, Pictures, and Biographies related to Puerto Rico. Please help maintain the Portal. Thank you, Mtmelendez, for all of your help with the Portal! History of Puerto Rico, one of our Featured articles, was displayed at the Main Page on June 18. Thanks to all of the users who helped by reviewing and improving the article and reverting vandalism done to the article during its display. Tribute to "the Marine" I would like to pay a small tribute in this edition to Tony "the Marine". Editing since May 24, 2004, he has been one of our project's most active editors and has become one of Wikipedia's most recognized writers. He has authored over 400 articles, including 4 Featured Articles, 1 Featured List, 10 Good Articles, and 28 DYKs. His name has appeared in newspapers and magazines and has been mentioned by politicians and artists. He has brought Puerto Rico's history and its people to the web. He has shown the world that Puerto Ricans have done much more than just be gangsters and drug dealers. He has shown the world that we have contributed to history and the world just as much as any other group of people. On September 29, 2007, Tony announced that he would not be writing for Wikipedia anymore. We, the members of this project, are sad that he will not be able to continue to spread the word of Hispanics' contributions here on the web, but I, for one, feel honored that he has entrusted us with the duty of continuing and improving his excellent work. Tony, rest assured that your contributions, your wisdom, and the help you provided to all of us when we were new users will be remembered for generations. Se levanta un gigante dormido Saludos to all, I present to you the new version of our project's Newsletter. It has been almost a year since the last edition, but rest assured that we haven't been lazy. Our Good Article count has raised by 11, while we have produced two Featured Lists and two Featured Articles. I will tweak the delivery format, from now on the Newsletter will be delivered per season. That means four anual editions, one for summer, fall, winter and spring. Speaking of summer, it has been a hot one, make sure to check out the project news below. Project News Automotivado joined the project on July 24. We welcome him and recognize his efforts in Puerto Rico Islanders and other articles covering Association football in Puerto Rico. Keep up the good work! Reverie has returned after an extended hiatus. She needs help finding new projects for her portfolio, if you have any image requests, please help her in this task. Román Baldorioty de Castro, Francisco Coimbre, Lolita Lebrón and Félix Trinidad are now of Good Article quality. List of Major League Baseball players from Puerto Rico passed Featured List Nomination on July 10. Puerto Rican Amazon passed Featured Article nomination on August 14. A fact from Hector Feliciano was featured in the "Did you Know?" section of the main page on August 16. Puerto Rican Campaign is currently a Good Article nominee, suggestions for improvement are welcomed.
Puerto Rican Highlight On August 3, Tarah Gieger became the first athlete from Puerto Rico to win a gold medal at the Summer X Games. (ESPN Deportes) In 2007, Gieger also became the first woman to participate at a Motocross des Nations, being part of Team Puerto Rico.
