1964 - The Beatles performed at the Night of a Hundred Stars in London. 1966 - The Cavern Club in Liverpool was reopened by Prime Minister Harold Wilson. 1971 - The Rolling Stones and the late Brian Jones' father sue ex-manager Allen Klein for $29 million over the mismanagement of funds. 1977 - Keith Moon went on stage with Led Zeppelin in Los Angeles. After the concert, John Bonham, Zeppelin manager Peter Grant and two others get into a fight with three of promoter Bill Graham's men. The opening act was Judas Priest who was starting their first U.S. tour. 1980 - Cliff Richard became an OBE (Officer of the British Empire). 1983 - The Police opened the North American leg of their Synchronicity Tour in Chicago, IL. 1987 - The remaining Beatles sue EMI for $40 million in back royalties and the rights to their catalog. 1989 - Ringo Starr started his first tour since the breakup of the Beatles with the first All Starr Band. 1990 - Filming began on the movie Falling From Grace. It is John Mellencamps acting and directing debut. 1992 - Bruce Springsteen kicked off a solo world tour in New Jersey. 1994 - Frank Zappa had an asteroid named after him by the International Astronomical Union. 1998 - Iron Maiden is forced to cancel the balance of their U.S. tour after vocalist Blaze Bayley has throat problems. 1998 - The Great Rewind Tour opens in Atlanta, GA with Culture Club, Howard Jones and the Human League. 1999 - The Woodstock 99 festival opened in Rome, NY. 2000 - Farrah Franklin left Destiny's Child leaving Beyonce, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. 2001 - Megadeth is banned from performing in Malaysia after the government deemed their imagery as inappropriate for youths. 2004 - Pete Doherty of Babyshambles is beat up by three men. 2004 - Linkin Park's Projekt Revolution Tour opens in Cincinnati, OH. 2006 - George Michael was charged with anonymous public sex after an incident where he was photographed with an older man in London. 2008 - Kid Rock was fined $1,000 and given a year's probation for a fight in an Atlanta Waffle House. |
