1942 - Frank Sinatra recorded his last sides with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. 1954 - Elvis Presley made his first live appearance in Memphis opening for Slim Whitman. 1968 - The Beatles closed the Apple Boutique in London. 1973 - John Phillips of the Mamas & the Papas said at a press conference that ABC-Dunhill had stolen upwards of $60 million from every artist who recorded for the label. 1978 - Thin Lizzy officially announced that Gary Moore had replaced Brian Robertson. 1986 - Boy George was fined by a London court for heroin possession. 1986 - RCA dropped John Denver after their new owner, GE, was upset with his song What Are We Making Weapons For?. 1987 - David Bowie started the North American portion of his Glass Spiders tour in Philadelphia, PA. 1991 - Axl Rose threatened to cancel that night's Guns N' Roses show if a police officer didn't tear up a ticket he was issuing to the limousine driver for an illegal left turn. The police tore up the ticket. 1992 - Smokey Robinson performed at Mary Wells' funeral. 1994 - Guitarist Bernard Butler left Suede. 1996 - Aerosmith fired long-time manager Tim Collins. 1997 - Michael Jackson and the Jackson family were not held responsible for losses the producer incurred for their Jackson Family Honors special after it was delayed due to Michael's illness. 1997 - Boys Don't Cry sued Paula Cole and her record company saying that Where Have All the Cowboys Gone sounded too much like their I Want to Be a Cowboy. 2001 - Peter Buck of R.E.M. pleads not guilty to an air rage charge. 2003 - A concert was held in Toronto to prove the city was safe from SARS. 450,000 showed up to see the Rolling Stones, AC/DC, the Guess Who and more. 2003 - A warrant is put out in Las Vegas for Motley Crue's Vince Neil for allegedly attacking a prostitute. 2004 - Ronald Isley of the Isley Brothers suffered a minor stroke. 2006 - Axl Rose has to leave a Guns N' Roses show at Wembley Arena in London early for "low blood pressure." Sebastian Bach fills in for the encore. 2009 - Matthew Fischer, former organist for Procol Harum, won the battle to be recognized as a co-author of A Whiter Shade of Pale.
