Usage

The {{WikiProject Scotland}} project banner template should be added (not subst:ed) to the talk page of every article within the scope of the project. While the template does not require any additional parameters, it has a number of optional ones that add various extra features to the banner. The full syntax is as follows:

Optional parameters

• class – valid values are fa, a, ga, b, c, start, stub, fl, list, category, disambig, draft, file, portal, project, template, na (case-insensitive). See the project's quality scale for details. Setting an explicit value of NA is rarely necessary; for this, either leave |class= blank or omit the parameter.
• importance – valid values are: top, high, mid, low, na (case-insensitive). See the project's importance scale for details. Setting an explicit value of NA is rarely necessary; for this, either leave |importance= blank or omit the parameter.
• attention – set |attention=yes if the article needs immediate attention from experienced editors. Use only if another parameter does not cover the need for attention; this should be used sparingly. It is strongly encouraged to also add a section to the talk page explaining what needs attention.
  • This parameter populates Category:Scotland articles needing attention.
• needs-image – set |needs-image=yes to request that a picture or pictures be included in the article to improve its quality.
  • This parameter populates Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Scotland.
• listas – This parameter, which is the equivalent of the DEFAULTSORT sortkey that should be placed on all biographical articles, is a sortkey for the article talk page (e.g. for James Clerk Maxwell, use |listas=Maxwell, James Clerk so that the talk page will show up in the M's and not the J's of the various assessment and administrative categories). This is important because it is one source used by those who set DEFAULTSORT on the article; consider also setting the DEFAULTSORT for the article when setting this parameter.   If the article is using {{WikiProject banner shell}} then it is preferable to add |listas= to that template instead of a project banner template. Putting the parameter on more than one template is not required.
• category – set |category=no if, and only if, a banner is being used for demonstration or testing purposes, to prevent unnecessary or undesirable categorization. Otherwise, omit this parameter.
• castles – set |castles=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Scottish Castles.
  • This parameter populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Scottish Castle articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
• clans – set |clans=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Clans of Scotland.
  • This parameter populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Clans of Scotland articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • clans-imp (only used if |clans=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within WikiProject Clans of Scotland
    • This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Clans of Scotland articles by importance.
• Fife – set |Fife=yes if the article is supported by Fife task force.
  • This parameter populates Category:Fife task force articles.
• islands – set |islands=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Scottish Islands.
  • This parameter populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Scottish Islands articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • islands-imp (only used if |islands=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within WikiProject Scottish Islands
    • This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Scottish Islands articles by importance.
• medieval – set |medieval=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Medieval Scotland.

  • transport-imp (only used if |transport=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within WikiProject Transport in Scotland
    • This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Scotland Transport articles by importance.
• scotsgaelic – set |scotsgaelic=yes if the article is supported by Scottish Gaelic task force.
  • This parameter populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Scottish Gaelic articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • scotsgaelic-imp (only used if |scotsgaelic=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within Scottish Gaelic task force
    • This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Scottish Gaelic articles by importance.
• biota – set |biota=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Biota of Great Britain and Ireland.
  • This parameter populates Category:WikiProject Biota of Great Britain and Ireland articles.
  • biota-imp (only used if |biota=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within WikiProject Biota of Great Britain and Ireland
    • This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Biota of Great Britain and Ireland articles by importance.

To avoid needlessly cluttering up talk pages, it is usually appropriate to remove any unused parameters from the template.
