Our primary goal is to work on the article Education in St. Louis, Missouri.
Overview
editThere should probably also be an article for Education in Greater St. Louis so that we can separate things like Wash U from the st. louis, missouri article since it isn't really inside the city. That would give us some parameters. Other than that, I prosose that this working group work primarily upon the K-12 and tertiary ed institutions in the area. We should especially look at the work done by the washU wikiproject and try to see how we can help and use their example for schools like UMSL and SIUE.

Article Series
editEvery county should have its own education category which should be categorized under Category:Education in Greater St. Louis. Under each county's Education category there should be a Universities and colleges of that county category which is also categorized under Category:Universities and colleges of Greater St. Louis. The same should be true of primary and sectondary schools. Moreover, most of the major universities and bigger school districts should have their own categories such as Category:Saint Louis University which would be categorized under universities and colleges of the county/city in question and under universities and colleges of greater st. louis.
It is also very important that we pay attention to the conventions established under Category:Education in Missouri and Category:Education in Illinois. Our subcategories should be similar to theirs and we should link our subcategories to theirs.
Universities and Colleges
editProto-WikiProjects

There is already a wikiproject for WashU, we should look at the example they are setting and follow it for all the universities. It would be nice to eventually have wikiprojects for UMSL, SLU, Webster, et al. So we can do some of the ground work like developing userboxes, creating categories, making articles, keeping track of alumni, and all of these things. In fact, we can use this space as a gestation tank of sorts and build the whole wikiproject here before spitting it out fully formed into the wikiverse.
We are also incharge of Template:Colleges and universities in metropolitan St. Louis
Work Requests
editPrimary and Secondary Schools
editIf a school district or private school encompasses more than one article it is ok to make a category for it, that will give us something to grow on. That category should be listed at,
the missouri level
the greater st. louis level
and the county level
Do take a look at the category tree and try to see how this is working. If there is a category for the school like for St. Louis Public Schools, there is no reason to place it under any of the high school or middle school cats because it encompasses many different schools. Those categories are for the individual schools under the district banner. Conversely there is no need to place a St. Louis Public Schools high school under the Greater St. Louis level because it is already represented there by the district. We should avoid over-categorizing articles and overloading our categories.
If you look at Category:School districts in Missouri you see see many of the categories that were created by this working project and a number of school district articles listed below. Many of them are in STL. The same can be done for Category:School districts in Illinois. As a start. Do make sure that you tag them with the WPbanner.
We should be uniform in our methodology and try to blend it with that of WikiProject Missouri and WikiProject Illinois.
Charter Schools, St. Louis Language Immersion School
Libraries
editWe should create article for the public library system in st. louis city and the surrounding counties. Pages should be made for the university and college libraries as well. It would be nice to eventually create pages for the univeristy archives in the area too, like the Wash U archives which are the authority when it comes to Monsanto and a number of other topics.
We should work to improve
Education in St. Louis, Missouri
Universities and colleges in St. Louis, Missouri
for a start. It should be pretty straight forward to just blend the information from all the articles in the category series.
