Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Discoveries/Log/2007/August
Newly discovered, August 2007
editNew, and already with over 40 stubs - from the letter A alone. Looks a likely keeper. Only problem is the name, on two accounts. Ammonite can mean one of several different things, and I think this should be at Category:Ammonoidea stubs anyway (mind you, the parent permcat - which isn't linked - is Category:Ammonites). Any thoughts? Grutness...wha? 02:06, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
- Well, we definitely do need to keep it to help clean up the paleostub and cephalopod stub categories. As to your other suggestion, I'm not sure what you mean, but you're more experienced than I am, so I assume you know what you're doing. ;) Abyssal leviathin 02:36, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
- No other meaning of Ammonite is likely to generate enough stub articles to be worth even an upmerged template. The respective parents are Category:Cephalopod stubs and Category:Cephalopods despite being class Cephalopoda, their grandparents are Category:Mollusc stubs and Category:Molluscs for phylum Mollusca, and ultimately Category:Animal stubs and Category:Animals for kingdom Animalia, so unless we go on a Latinate binge of renaming stub and permanent categories, I don't see any problem with keeping the cat where it is so long as it matches the permcat. Keep and add to list with a possible stub redirect at {{Ammonoidea-stub}} for the Latinately inclined. Caerwine Caer’s whines 02:42, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
- This was proposed and uncontested in July. Her Pegship (tis herself) 23:13, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
Upmerged and consistent with other templates. Unlikkely to see much use, but not a problem AFAICT. Grutness...wha? 01:50, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
{{Greece-band-stub}} (redlinked)
editRedlinked and unproposed, but consistent with other similar categories. Upmerge, maybe? Grutness...wha? 02:13, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Two articles. Suggest populate or upmerge. Alai 05:35, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
- Note the template name needs NG-ifying, too - no need for the capital A. Not too convinced of where this fits with other med stubs, but upmerge or populate seems fair enough. Grutness...wha? 01:41, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
{{Guam-radio-station-stub}} and {{PuertoRico-radio-station-stub}}
editUnproposed templates. At least they're upmerged, though where they're upmerged to is questionable - both point to Category:United States radio station stubs, whereas all other Puerto Rico and Guam templates point to Caribbean and Oceanian categories respectively and also to the general Category:Puerto Rico stubs in the case of the former (we don't yet have a Category:Guam stubs, though perhaps it's about time we did). The chances of ever getting enough articles for a separate Guam radio station stub category is very remote, however, though with upmerged templates that is less of a concern, I suppose. Grutness...wha? 01:10, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- I created both of these templates as I was cleaning up Category:United States radio station stubs by re-stubbing all belonging to individual U.S. states. I created these two stub templates following the clear precedent from the other 51 U.S. state stubs. I originally had put the Puerto Rico stubs into their own category, but felt that was silly, as there were so few. This is why they remain in the main category. JPG-GR 07:37, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- This now feeds into Category:Radio stations in Puerto Rico, and no stub category at all. Previously way made more sense, methinks. Alai 00:07, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
Sensibly formatted, but likely to be woefully small - and we haven't yet begun to split out genre/year crossreferenced stub types. Even if we did start with sf films, the 1950s and 1980s would be more likely starting points. If kept then upmerging seems reasonable, though I'm not really that convinced it's needed yet. Grutness...wha? 02:30, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
{{Ep-stub}} / Category:EP stubs
editFor extended play recordings. Created 7/17/2007; contains 11 pages. Her Pegship (tis herself) 21:42, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
- Well, my guess would have been the European Parliament. Very small and the name is not that great so something will have to be done. Valentinian T / C 23:16, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
{{Carrom-sports-stub}} (upmerged)
editPotentially useful, for a family of games from the Indian subcontinent that resemble a cross between billiards and tiddlywinks. Not sure how it would fit with the cue sport stubs (some kinds of carrom seem to use cues, others don't, if the article is anything to go by), or for that matter whether standard naming would be X-sports-stub or X-sport-stub. Other than that, probably worth keeping - upmerged, at least. Grutness...wha? 02:01, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
Various reggaeton stub types
editOvernight, we seem to have gained {{Reggaeton-stub}}, {{Reggaeton-bio-stub}}, {{Reggaeton-band-stub}}, and {{Reggaeton-song-stub}}, all four of which link to the new Category:Reggaeton stubs (two of them also have different redlinked categories). There definitely seem to be enough stubs for one category and stub type, and there is an associated WikiProject, but four stub types is overkill, especially since some of these are not split along normal lines. We don't split bands and people by musical subgenre. major genre (jazz/blues/rock/classical), yes, but not at this level of split. I've no objection to a reggaeton-stub or a reggaeton-song-stub, but the bio and band categories seem more than a little of a stretch. Grutness...wha? 01:37, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
- In the normal run of events I'd have no objection to keeping these as upmerged templates, but cleaning them up reveals that none of them are in use, at all. (The population was all from transclusions of the -album- template, which was (spuriously) multi-categorised (as were these all).) Alai 04:46, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
- {{Reggaeton-album-stub}}, found in June. Her Pegship (tis herself) 16:56, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
Tad narrow, anyone? Alai 03:59, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
- Just a little. This one could possibly have gone traight to SFD, I think. Grutness...wha? 23:30, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
{{Undergroundstub}}, {{LTstub}} / Category:London Transport stubs
editOdd-looking template rename and categoryjack of the existing {{London-tube-stub}} / Category:London Underground stubs. There's some very convoluted move and edit history, apparently all motivated to conform to assorted WPJ names and scopes (and of course, include some WPJ self-reference spam), but in short neither current name follows the naming guidelines, or the ambiguity test. As there was an earlier SFD of a less poorly-chosen template, resulting in a move to the previous name, I'm half-tempted to speedy this, but perhaps better just to undo the move, and SFD the redirect and duplicate. Whether to 'unmerge' the categories is another issue. Alai 01:55, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
- Mmm. Renaming the templates is a definite - both the one about clandestine wartime groups and the one about Lithuania - these are horribly kludged names. As for the category,. London Transport - if still as it used to be - meant the tube and bus services, and it would make a certain amount of sense to group them together, though it does cross the hierarchical system rather badly. Dunno. Grutness...wha? 23:30, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
Created by a regular, and a pretty reasonable idea on the face of it. The only problem is that the template will become redundant fairly soon, as each overseas French region gets its own template. The category's a good catch-all, but the longevity of the template may not be too great. Grutness...wha? 00:52, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
- The template name is a problem as Outremer also refers to the medieval crusader states. Valentinian T / C 06:49, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
- Why not replace said template with upmerged per-department/region/territory templates immediately? Are we waiting for some mythical "enough for an upmerged template" number of stubs (thereby kinda defeating the purpose of upmerged templates). The category name doesn't seem the best, either, as it doesn't in any way match our article on the topic. Alai 00:11, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- I'm working on it. Unfortunately, I'm at the stage where pretty much the only ones left have problems with naming or status. Guadeloupe's political status is changing, for instance, and what do you name a template for the French Southern and Antarctic Territories? Expect some debate on these and other remaining places without their own geo templates at WSS/P soon... Grutness...wha? 00:50, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- In a pinch, {{TAAF-stub}}? I thought Guadeloupe's status was unchanged, just its borders. I notice that this cat is actually populated in part by two such templates, already... If all else fails, rename to {{overseas-France-geo-stub}}, and pick off the components one by one. Alai 03:35, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Has been lurking apparently since September. Contains 23 articles; would at least need a renamed template. Her Pegship (tis herself) 22:31, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
- ...and probably an upmerge. I take it that these are for comics from Italy rather than comics in Italian? (Mind you, unless there are a pile of Sammarinese or Vatican ones, the two groups are probably pretty near identical). Grutness...wha? 00:00, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
- Perhaps to a "European" container? Alai 14:47, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
- That would make sense, especially since it would parallel the current proposal for a euro-comics-creator type. Grutness...wha? 23:33, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
Unproposed and newly created. Seems in keeping with other simiar categories, but the number of current stubs that would fit in it seems pretty low (though the Beatles song stubtype would be a natural subcategory of it, perhaps). Maybe an upmerging candidate... Grutness...wha? 02:30, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
Seems that the Beatles are not the only group with a stub type for their songs after all. The Queen WikiProject must have created this at some point without a proposal at WP:WSS. At 31 stubs it juuust sneaks past the "viable with a wikiproject" threshold. At least Queen makes a bit more sense than some of the bands that have had stub types created (and deleted) in the past. Grutness...wha? 02:30, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
A whole bunch of US highway/route stub types
edit{{Mantids-stub}} / Category:Mantids stubs (and redirect {{Mantis-stub}})
editUnproposed, and not in need of splitting out. The unsorted insect stubs are now at quite a reasonable size, and this stub (mispluralised) category only has 12 articles - well below threshold. Upmerging would have been a reasonable option ifd this had been a more appropriate Mantodea-stub rather than at this name. Looks suspiciously like a job for SFD. Grutness...wha? 02:13, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- Just wait 'til Polbot starts on the insects, though, then the cry will be, "ZOMG, 12 listings pages of Mantodea!". :/ I despair of any consistency on common vs. Latinesque names: in this case there seem to be essentially duplicate articles at Mantodea and praying mantis; if there's an intended difference in scope between the two, in terms of either numbers of species or of different treatments of the topic, it's not at all obvious to me. Some renaming required, either way, at the very least. Alai 23:24, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
