How to title the page
editAs every province has the same name as the capital city of the province, the naming of each province page should be the name of the capital added with Province. There are often several version of the romanized Thai name, but for the provinces a standard romanized name is defined. The article Provinces of Thailand already includes the full table with links to the articles.
As the capital has the same name as the province, a disambiguation would be necessary. However it should be enough to add a short sentence in the article about the city referencing the provincial article, like it is done in Kalasin. Only in the case of Ayutthaya and Sukhothai a complete disambiguation is necessary, as the historic kingdoms are commonly also known under the same name. Another special case is Bangkok, it makes no sense to separate the province from the city, as both are virtually identical.
Where to find information
edit- The Tourist Authority of Thailand (TAT) has a page for every province at [1]. Note that the Amphoe listing on that page might be incomplete
- The National Culture Commission with several small articles on the province [2]
- The Thai Interiour Ministry, however only in Thai [3]. It also contains links to the official homepage of the provinces.
- The National Statistical Office gives population statistics on the provinces [4]
- The Department of Provincial Administration (DOPA), some statistics, but most in Thai only [5]
- TH_Province.ods - a OpenOffice sheet with collected information on provinces, districts and communes; compiled by User:Ahoerstemeier
Structure
editThe article should start with a good introduction, giving the name of the province in both roman and thai letters, its location in Thailand, and the names of neighbouring districts resp. countries. Eventually the source or meaning of the provincial name can be added.
The factsheet includes:
- the capital (Amphoe Mueang)
- area, population and population density, including the rank; if possible, state the year, when the population was valid
- the ISO 3166-2 code, see ISO 3166-2:TH
- a map of Thailand with the province highlighted

The rest of the article consists of the following paragraphs:
History: Historical events related to the province, even if they occurred before the establishment of the province. If these are already covered in more detail in another article only write a short introduction with the link to that article.
Geography: Describe the geographical features within the province (mountains, rivers, lakes, islands etc.), the national parks in the province
Demographics: If there are any specialities about the population in the province it should be listed here - for example a significant number of ethnic minorities (hilltribes in the north, malayians in the south), or significant numbers of non-buddhists (the Muslim provinces in the south) it should be listed here. However for most provinces this section can be left out.
Symbols: Every province has a seal and a flag, a provincial flower and a tree, and a slogan. Especially the symbol on the seal should be described, and if a good and free image of it can be found it should be added.
Administrative division: Give a full list of Amphoe and King Amphoe.
When applying the template below, you should change the table according to the situation in this province. For example in case there are no King Amphoe the column can be left out completely.
Miscellaneous: Anything, that does not fit in the above categories; normally this section should be dropped.
External links: The link to the TAT website belongs here, and any other good alternative website. Many sites just copy the contents from TAT, so only those having genuine content should be listed.
