Location and General Description of Property

The railroad of the Alamogordo and Sacramento Mountain Railway Company, hereinafter called the Alamogordo Railway, is a branch line extending from Alamogordo Junction to Russia, 31.548 miles.

The property of the Alamogordo Railway was operated by its own organization from January 1, 1899, the date of completion of the first section of its road, to March 31, 1908, and since April 1, 1908, it has been operated under lease by the El Paso and Southwestern.

Introductory

The Alamogordo Railway is a corporation of New Mexico, having its principal office at Alamogordo, N. Mex. The Alamogordo Railway is controlled by the El Paso and Northeastern Company through ownership of its outstanding capital stock. It is indirectly controlled by the El Paso and Southwestern through ownership of the capital stock of the El Paso and Northeastern Company. On the other hand, the records reviewed do not indicate that this company controls any common-carrier corporation. The property of the Alamogordo Railway was operated by its own organization from January 1, 1899, the date of completion of the first section of its road, to March 31, 1908, and since April 1, 1908, it has been operated under lease by the El Paso and Southwestern.

Corporate History

The Alamogordo Railway was incorporated March 24, 1898, under the general laws of the then Territory of New Mexico for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad in the State of New Mexico. The date of its organization was March 25, 1898.

Development of Fixed Physical Property

The entire railroad of the Alamogordo Railway was acquired by construction which was performed under contract with the El Paso and Northeastern Company. The years when the various portions of the road were constructed are indicated in the statement following. Alamogordo Junction to Toboggan, 1898-99, 19.180 miles; Toboggan to Cox Canon, 1900, 7.430 miles; Cox Canon to Russia, 1903, 4.460 miles; change in line, 1916, 0.160 mile; total 31.230 miles, plus difference of 0.318 mile between recorded mileage and mileage inventoried as of date of valuation, making a total mileage inventoried as of date of valuation of 31.548 miles.

Leased Railway Property

The entire property of the Alamogordo Railway was leased to the El Paso and Southwestern for sole operation for an indefinite period under an agreement dated May 1, 1908, effective April 1, 1908, and was so operated on the date of valuation. The annual rental was $19,300, which amount was credited to income for the year ending June 30, 1917.
