The railroad of the Austin Dam and Suburban Railway Company, herein called the Austin Dam and Suburban, is a belt line located within the city limits of Austin, Tex., extending from a connection with the carrier [I&GN] at Third and San Antonio Streets, through the industrial section along Fourth Street, also from another connection with the carrier at mile 178.7, to the dam across the Colorado River, a total of 2.571 miles. The property is operated as a switching and terminal railroad, with the motive power and forces furnished by the carrier. The Austin Dam and Suburban also owns 1.266 miles of yard tracks and siding. Its road thus embraces 3.837 miles of all tracks owned and used.


CORPORATE HISTORY

The Austin Dam and Suburban was incorporated March 15, 1895, for a period of 50 years, under the general laws of Texas, for the purpose of constructing, acquiring, maintaining, and operating street railways and suburban or belt lines of railway within and near the city of Austin, Tex.; and also for the purpose of constructing, owning, and operating union depots. The date of the organization was not indicated by the records reviewed.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

During the year 1891 the city of Austin constructed approximately 4.75 miles of railroad from a point within the city to the site of the Austin Dam, and on July 16, 1895, the Austin Dam and Suburban purchased the road from the city of Austin, electrifying the property, and in the spring of 1899 constructed about 1.5 miles of additional tracks. Under the provisions of an ordinance approved June 10, 1903, it abandoned and removed tracks from certain streets, thereby acquiring the right to operate the remaining tracks as a steam railroad.
