The railroad of the Brooksville Railroad Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad, located in northeastern Kentucky. The main line extends from Wellsburg to Brooksville, a distance of 9.897 miles. The carrier also owns 0.539 mile of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 10.436 miles of all tracks owned.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated August 21, 1895, under the general laws of the State of Kentucky, for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad from Brooksville, Ky., to a point on the road of The Chesapeake and Ohio Railway Company near Wellsburg, Ky. The date of organization of the carrier was not ascertainable from the records reviewed.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The owned mileage of the carrier, 9.897 miles, was all acquired by construction during the years 1896 and 1897. The grading of its road was performed by E. S. Whitney, an independent contractor, and the bridge work, tracklaying, and surfacing was done under contract by Y. Alexander, its president.
