Fredonia and Reeds Railroad

Location and General Description of Property

The railroad of the Fredonia and Reeds Railroad Company, hereinafter called the Fredonia and Reeds, is a single-track line, from Reeds to Fredonia, Ill., 1.771 miles.

The Fredonia and Reeds is a corporation of the State of Illinois, having its principal office in Chicago, Ill. It was incorporated March 17, 1914, under the general laws of that State, in the interest of the Illinois Central and is controlled by the latter.

The Illinois Central constructed the railroad for this company, amounting to 1.771 miles, consisting of a single-track, standard-gage, steam railroad, extending from Fredonia to Reeds Junction, Ill. Upon completion of the road, on January 9, 1915, the Illinois Central took it over for operation under a lease agreement for a period of 20 years. The lease, dated March 6, 1915, provides that the Illinois Central is to pay operating expenses, taxes, etc., and waive any claim for interest on advances for construction and additions and betterments.
