Location and General Description of Property

The railroad of The Hopatcong Railroad Company, hereinafter called the Hopatcong Railroad, consists of 1.025 miles of single-track line extending from a point east of Lake Hopatcong to the plant of the American Forcite Powder Company on Lake Hopatcong, within the State of New Jersey.

Introductory

The Hopatcong Railroad is a corporation of the State of New Jersey having its principal office at New York, N. Y. It is controlled by the Lackawanna through ownership of its entire capital stock. On the other hand the records do not indicate that this company controls any common-carrier corporation. The property of the Hopatcong Railroad was operated by the Lackawanna as an industrial siding from the date of completion until December 31, 1917, and from the latter date until date of valuation it has been operated by the United States Railroad Administration as a part of the operating unit of the Lackawanna.

Corporate History

The Hopatcong Railroad was incorporated November 13, 1889, under the general laws of the State of New Jersey. The date of its organization was November 18, 1889.

Development of Fixed Physical Property

The owned mileage of the Hopatcong Railroad, 1.025 miles extending from a junction with The Morris and Essex Railroad Company east of Lake Hopatcong to the works of the American Forcite Powder Company on Lake Hopatcong, N. J., was all acquired by construction. The line was opened for operation in the latter part of 1897.

Leased Railway Property

The property of the Hopatcong Railroad is operated by the Lackawanna through ownership of its entire capital stock.
