Missouri Valley and Blair Railway and Bridge Company
editLocation and General Description of Property
editThe property of the Missouri Valley and Blair Railway and Bridge Company, herein called the Missouri Valley and Blair Railway, consists of a single-track line extending from a point near California Junction, Iowa, to Blair, Nebr., 3.351 miles, including a bridge across the Missouri River and approaches thereto.
Introductory
editThe Missouri Valley and Blair Railway is a corporation of the State of Iowa, having its principal office at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and its general administrative office at Chicago, Ill. It is controlled by the North Western, through ownership of the entire outstanding capital stock. On the other hand, the records reviewed do not indicate that this company controls any other common-carrier corporation. From the date of completion to November 30, 1885, the property was operated by the Sioux City and Pacific Railroad Company. From December 1, 1885, to date of valuation, the property has been operated, under lease, by the North Western.
Corporate History
editThe Missouri Valley and Blair Railway was incorporated August 31, 1882, under the general laws of the State of Iowa for the purpose of constructing a railroad from Missouri Valley, Iowa, to Blair, Nebr., including a bridge over the Missouri River. The date of organization was August 31, 1882.
Development of Fixed Physical Property
editThe owned mileage of the Missouri Valley and Blair Railway, including the bridge over the Missouri River, 3.351 miles, was all acquired by construction in 1883. The bridge was constructed by this company, under an assignment by the Sioux City and Pacific Rail Road Company (of 1868) dated August 9, 1882, of rights, privileges, and franchises originally granted the latter by act of Congress, June 27, 1882.
Leased Railway Property
editThe entire property of the Missouri Valley and Blair Railway is leased to the North Western for a term of 25 years from February 1, 1909. The terms of the lease and the rental accrued for the year ending on date of valuation are given in the chapter on leased railway property, in the report on the North Western. The Missouri Valley and Blair Railway and the North Western have joint use of the telegraph pole line owned by The Western Union Telegraph Company, located along its railway, as provided in the agreement dated April 1, 1898 between the latter and the North Western.
