The railroad of The Monson Railroad Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track narrow-gauge steam railroad, located in the central part of Maine. The owned mileage extends northerly from Monson Junction to Monson, Me., a distance of 6.218 miles. The carrier also owns yard and side tracks totaling 2.887 miles. Its road thus embraces 9.105 miles of all tracks owned. In Appendix 1 will be found a general description of the property of the carrier.

Corporate history.—The carrier was incorporated on March 18, 1881, under the general laws of the State of Maine as The Monson and Athens Railroad Company. On February 16, 1885, the name was changed to its present form by special act of the legislature. The property which was acquired by construction was built by contractors who were in no wise connected with the carrier. Work was commenced in April, 1883, and the road completed in January, 1884, when it was opened for operation. Its principal office is at Monson, Me.
