Raquette Lake Railway
editLocation and General Description of Property
editThe railroad of the Raquette Lake Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad located in the State of New York. The owned main line extends eastwardly from Carter to Raquette Lake, a distance of 18.104 miles. The Raquette Lake also owns and uses 2.220 miles of yard tracks and sidings. The road thus embraces 20.324 miles of all tracks owned. The property is operated by The New York Central Railroad Company, as agent for the carrier.
Introductory
editThe carrier is a corporation of the State of New York, having its local office at Raquette Lake, N.Y., and its general administrative office at New York City. The records reviewed do not indicate that it was controlled by any individual or corporation on date of valuation, nor, on the other hand, that the carrier, itself, controlled any common-carrier corporations.
The property of the carrier was operated by its own organization from July 1, 1900, to December 31, 1900. From the latter date to date of valuation the property has been operated by The New York Central Railroad Company and its predecessors, as agents for the owners, under agreement dated January 1, 1901.
Corporate History
editThe carrier was incorporated February 7, 1899, under the general laws of the State of New York.
Development of Fixed Physical Property
editThe entire 18.104 miles owned by the carrier was acquired by construction. The construction work was begun in May, 1899, and the road was placed in operation July 1, 1900.
