editThe railroad of The Schuylkill and Lehigh Valley Railroad Company, herein called the Schuylkill and Lehigh Valley, is a single-track line extending in a general westerly direction from Lizard Creek Junction to Blackwood, with two short branches, one of which affords the Lehigh Valley entrance to Pottsville through trackage rights over the People's Railway, all in Pennsylvania, and totaling 41.521 miles of road.
Introductory
editThe Schuylkill and Lehigh Valley is a corporation of the State of Pennsylvania, having its principal office at Philadelphia, Pa. It is controlled by the Lehigh Valley through ownership of the entire outstanding capital stock. On the other hand, the records do not indicate that this company controls any common-carrier corporation.
The property of the Schuylkill and Lehigh Valley has been operated by the Lehigh Valley since September, 1890, except for the period from February 1, 1892, to August 8, 1893, when the company operated its own property.
Corporate History
editThe Schuylkill and Lehigh Valley was incorporated March 11, 1887, through filing with the secretary of state of the State of Pennsylvania of an agreement dated February 8, 1887, for the consolidation of the properties, rights, and franchises to[sic] The Pottsville and New York Railroad Company and the Schuylkill and Lehigh Valley Railroad Company, which had been incorporated under the general laws of Pennsylvania March 23, 1882, and October 9, 1886, respectively.
The purpose for which the Schuylkill and Lehigh Valley was incorporated was to construct, operate, and maintain a railroad from a connection with the railroad of the Lehigh Valley at or near Lizard Creek Junction to Blackwood, with several branch lines. The date of organization of the company was March 9, 1887.
Development of Fixed Physical Property
editThe owned mileage of the Schuylkill and Lehigh Valley, 41.521 miles, was all acquired by construction which began in 1890. In the construction of the property, contracts were let to W. F. Wentz and Company, contractors. By some means, assignments of the contracts became vested in E. P. Wilbur and Robert H. Sayre, who were officials of the Lehigh Valley. Leased Railway Property
editThe property of the Schuylkill and Lehigh Valley is operated by the Lehigh Valley, through ownership of the entire outstanding capital stock. The Lehigh Valley makes no accounting to the Schuylkill and Lehigh Valley for these operations, but merges the revenues and expenses with those from its own operations.

editThe Pottsville and New York Railroad Company was a Pennsylvania corporation which was incorporated March 23, 1882, under the general laws of Pennsylvania. No accounting or other records have been obtained. The corporation built no railroad. On March 11, 1887, its property, franchises, etc., were merged with those of the Schuylkill and Lehigh Valley Railroad Company to form the Schuylkill and Lehigh Valley.
