The Steelton & Highspire Railroad Company, hereinafter called the carrier, owns and operates a standard gage, steam railroad, located in Pennsylvania, extending from Steelton to Highspire. The arrangement of the property is peculiar. There are 16 separate main lines, aggregating 10.977 miles. The carrier also owns 26.580 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus comprises 37.557 miles of all tracks owned and used. The right of way and roadbed on which the carrier's tracks and structures are located are leased from the Bethlehem Steel Company. The carrier has joint use of short sections of track at Steelton and Highspire, owned by The Pennsylvania Railroad Company.


CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated November 16, 1916, under general laws of Pennsylvania and organized November 28, 1916.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

Of the 10.04 miles of road owned, 8.45 miles were purchased from Bethlehem Steel Company and 1.59 miles were constructed during the period 1921 to 1927. There is a difference of 0.937 mile between 10.04 miles recorded by carrier and 10.977 miles inventoried, as of date of valuation.
