The property of The Wichita Union Terminal Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, consists of 1.574 miles of main track and 7.536 miles of yard tracks and sidings, a total of 9.110 miles of all tracks, and of a passenger station and appurtenant terminal facilities, situated within the city of Wichita, Kans.

Jointly used property.—The carrier owns no property jointly with other common carriers. In Appendix 2 will be found a statement of the property used jointly with other carriers.

Corporate history.—The carrier was incorporated on March 27, 1911, under the general laws of the State of Kansas for a period of 50 years. Its principal office is at Wichita, Kans. The stated purpose of the corporation was to acquire by purchase or lease, and to construct, own, maintain, and operate within certain designated limits in the city of Wichita, Kans., a standard-gauge railroad, and a telegraph and telephone line in connection therewith. Its main line was to extend from a connection with the line of The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company, near the northern city limits of Wichita, southerly about 5 miles to a connection with the same railroad near the southern city limits. Certain branch or spur tracks which would connect its main line with the tracks of the four carriers presently to be named and with those of other carriers, and terminal facilities for the aforesaid four ompanies, including a union passenger station, were also to be provided.

Incorporation was in the interest of The Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railway Company, hereinafter referred to as the Rock Island, The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company, hereinafter referred to as the Santa Fe, the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway Company, hereinafter referred to as the Frisco, and The Kansas City, Mexico & Orient Railroad Company, hereinafter referred to as the Orient. Collectively, these companies are hereinafter referred to as the tenant companies. The stock of the carrier is held equally in the names of officers or employees of the Rock Island, Santa Fe, Frisco and Orient. Under present agreements, the tenant companies have the right of use of the carrier's property for 999 years from March 8, 1914. Each tenant company operates its own trains; the carrier operates the facilities and maintains the tracks. Revenues are apportioned monthly among the tenant companies and operating expenses, taxes, and interest on bonds are paid by them. The carrier neither files nor concurs in any tariffs.

APPENDIX 2
DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The property of the carrier was acquired by construction. Part of the right of way was acquired by certain of the tenant companies prior to the incorporation of the carrier and was later conveyed to it. Actual construction was commenced in August, 1912, and was prosecuted continuously until March 8, 1914, at which time operation of the property was begun. The property was constructed through various contractors under the general supervision of a board of engineers composed of one representative from each of the tenant companies. There is nothing in the record which Indicates that any of the contractors were affiliated with the carrier or its officers.
