The railroad of the Wilmington, Brunswick & Southern Railroad Company, hereinafter called the carrier is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad, located in southeastern North Carolina. The main line extends in a general southerly direction from Navassa to Southport, a distance of 29.923 miles. The carrier also owns 2.563 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 32.486 miles of all tracks owned and used.


CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated January 22, 1907, under the general laws of the State of North Carolina. It was organized on February 21, 1907.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The road owned by the carrier, amounting to 29.923 miles of railroad extending from Navassa to Southport, N. C., was acquired by purchase and construction. Of the total mileage owned, about 17 miles between Navassa and Bolivia, N. C., was purchased from the Town Creek Railroad and Lumber Company on August 3, 1910, and about 13 miles between Bolivia and Southport, N. C., was acquired by construction, under contract. The entire road was opened for operation on July 2, 1912.
